It didn’t “end” the war but it was the beginning of the end, I mean Operation Market Garden (three months post D Day) was supposed to end the war by Christmas 1944, it did not.

Yes, but it saved a lot of lives and changed the trajectory. It also cost lives, too.

It probably did. The holocaust cost the lives of six million, before D Day the Allied bombing campaign was very effective, the bulk of the German army was engaged against the Russians and the Luftwaffe were essentially were not to be feared post 1942.

I think a case could be made that the allies could have bottled Germany up and simply bombed them into submission but it likely wouldn’t have saved any more lives and likely cost more in a holocaust machine that would have continued unabated.

We made some mistakes but overall the final decisions worked.

It’s an important day. I admit, I forgot until I heard a memorial on the radio.

Veterans and families of veterans never ever forget! D-Day is a day of remembrance for all of them.

WWI, WWII, Korean war, Vietnam war, Iraq war, Afghanistan war, all had American casualties too, but D-Day was the worst!
