I doubt they can’t find servers since so many are out of work.  Is it possible all the stimulus money and unemployment is keeping people from looking for wor? I heard on a consumer radio broadcast that they have a QR code at the table which you scan onto your phone and then you order via the phone.  They will have people who are just servers and they will only carry food to your table.  Kitchens may use robots rather than chefs.  It also means people will leave smaller tips, so serving won’t be a lucrative job anymore.  The benefit is hard hit restaurants can stay in business with only a few employees.

I voted 1, I just feel like this kind of automation is going to be everywhere; I mean you don't even need to talk to a real human to order at most McDonalds locations, you do everything by a user terminal. Ultimately the pace of something like this is attributable to the employer deciding they can make up the cost and maintenance of the robot servers/cooks if they don't have to pay staff, sadly I don't think we've reached that equation yet as servers make very little, their earners are in tips which they regularly have to split, and I get it; serving is not a career, it's a transitional job so there can be no expectation of a living wage.  

High end servers make very good money as do people serving drinks in nice bars or restaurants.  They make a lot in tips when food and drinks are expensive.  Just ask Gavin Newsom how much the tip was on his $14,000 dinner.  15% is $2,100.

Maybe it’s different in the States but here in the last ten years there’s been this incredible push on servers to pool tips with other staff, leaving less for everyone but everyone gets ‘something’. No doubt in expensive steakhouses and very upscale bars you’re likely correct but at a franchise level I don’t think so.

It’s probably the same here, I don’t know.

For the 0.01 percent. We the serfs don't eat at bars and restaurants where per person it can be more than a whole month's rent. Or where in the above case, the tip alone was more than I spent on a car.

You can fix a $2,100 car.  Mechanic costs to keep it running would raise the price for ordinary drivers.  But yes, and just because he can spend that much money on a dinner, should he?

The optics really look bad, like it's a slap in the face for people who realize they spent more on a single dinner than the annual income of a lot of people.

If it's his own personal money... then I don't see why not, but if he's splurging that much of tax payer's dollars, then no... the public should hold him accountable and voice their concerns that he should personally refund the tax dollars he misused!
