That was a long time ago. The process is different now. I read some articles on it.
Actually, it's still occurring... under new rules to weed out some of the old tactics used, but new tactics have come up that allow them to continue doing the same but not yet be caught.
And this problem is not only in the US, it's all over the world... including Japan. Any time the government is involved, it will become more expensive than if the government isn't involved. And that holds true for all countries!

Spending is always a huge controversy.
Absolutely!!! No doubt about that in any way!

What to spend it on and how much. Politicians see money as endless.
And that's the problem because they're not spending their money... they're spending ours! And unless we can hold them accountable, the problem will just continue to exacerbate.
They spend what they don't have... we keep voting them into office so that they can spend more of what they don't have while we end up footing the bills! Makes absolutely no sense if you ask me!
But they keep getting voted in time and again to spend more and more and more!
We need to stand up and say enough is enough is enough. But it will take a concerted effort of everybody. Except the biggest problem here is that they continue to add more and more people who depend on government handouts and they're not going to want to vote on anything to reduce what they currently get!
And thus the paradox we're currently in! Unless some kind of miracle occurs, we will spend our way into bankruptcy similar to Venezuela!

The endless supply. They print more. Even those who want a budget want government money spend on projects that affect them positively. We could stop that by having very strong term limits on the House and Senate. Two terms and they are out. No campaigning while they are in office. Then they would only win a second term if they accomplished something.

Ah, but the more you print, the less value it carries, just look at the Venezuelan Bolivar: https://www.xe.com/currencyconverter/convert/?Amount=1&From=VEF&To=USD
1.00 Venezuelan Bolívar = US$ 0.0000000000032129136
And yes, you read that correct, US$ 1.00 = 311,208,903,643.77 Venezuelan Bolívares

They won’t believe it until it happens. Then they will blame Trump
That's a sad fact of reality... but it won't be Trump's fault!
But regardless of who they blame it on... you would end up paying at least $37,000 or more for a gallon of gas?

By then no one would drive.
Nope... in fact they wouldn't be doing much of anything except attempting to cross the border over into Mexico or Canada.
And it all starts with printing more and more and more money de-valuating the dollar more and more and more.
That is exactly what happened in Venezuela and Turkey and numerous other countries.

They dismiss that as conspiracies.
Well, the value of $1 dollar in either Venezuelan currency or Turkish currency are NOT conspiracy theories.
Too often, the truth is attempted to be covered up by the term "conspiracy theory" by the left, where as the liberal lies are called "conspiracy theory" by the right!
Both truth and lies are both be called "conspiracy theory" but one side is lying!
I'll leave it up to the general public to determine which for themselves to keep from being said that this is a conspiracy theory! (* GRIN *)
