Saw this article and chuckled:

http://www.independent.co.uk/environment/heatwave-unsurvivable-climate-change-india-pakistan-bangladesh-2100-global-warming-a7874016.html

Nothing funny about it except that I DO NOT BELIEVE the (supposed) experts who are being quoted.

And therein lies the problem: lack of trust in authority is now so pervasive that most people -- myself included -- simply reject out of hand opinions from authority figures that do not conform to their own personal views.

Or is it a problem?

It IS a problem that many conservatives no longer trust experts. But it says more about the ignorance and narcissm of the conservatives than it says about experts.

Once big money and power got into the game it is hard to believe anyone on climate, the real scientists retreated decades ago, they are still working on it but we rarely hear their real views, and the views we do get are highly biased on both sides.

To me the greatest threat is that GW is being used as an economic and control weapon from the governments of the world to control the people of the world, it is 99% about the money and power and 1% about the environment. Much of the science is polluted with the politics that fund it and the hysterics they have somewhat successfully been able to whip up with clueless movie stars and other high profile people without a clue have been convinced to support.

I think there are plenty of good reasons to reduce emissions but global warming is not really one of them, pollution in general is certainly a good reason to conserve and be more efficient with energy but the planet is at far more risk by things like over-population than it is by things like GW, which has had a marginal if any real world impacts to date. Global politicians have just learned hoe to use weather as another control on people, just look at the Paris Accord, very little science and a lot of economics, the Paris Accord is a wealth distribution accord and has very little to do with climate change.

Politicians are using the oldest trick in the book, fear and ignorance to try to control the people and combined with mass media are looking at taking more power and money from the people, every "green" effort seems to have one thing in common, someone reaching into our pockets to take our money and give it to others.

"the real scientists retreated decades ago, they are still working on it but we rarely hear their real views"

See, this is the problem. You are woefully uninformed. This above statement just shows you don't know anything on the subject.

You're better off defaulting to trusting experts on the matter than just making up bullshit or believing what non-experts say on the subject.

Pray tell WHAT big money promotes environmental science and public education thereof?

WildBill (WILDBILL47) said...        the real scientists retreated decades ago,

The real scientists are presently just as real as ever, a growing cohort and their research continues to mount as the earth itself continues to validate the hypothesis.

The greatest threat to humanity is that the governments of the world might not in fact succeed in altering human behavior, economic behavior, that naturally prefers to use old energy technology already paid for than to abandon it and develop more costly new technology.  Feel free to propose any way other than political will behind force of law to do this.

We have managed to clean (most of) the grunge out of the CO2 exhausts from oil and coal but fossil fuel is still mostly carbon and CO2 is what's predominantly driving the long term retention of solar energy in the troposphere and surface and seas.  It is CO2 from fossil carbon (which makes it additive) that must be abated.

OF COURSE population reduction would reduce the production of greenhouse gas.  That's an even harder sell than new technology but. again, feel free to propose any way other than political will behind force of law to do that.

And you are exactly right, and have perfectly stated the problem. Weather has been politicized and is being used by the left to redistribute wealth. With all the hoopla we are hearing from them there are no solutions to the changing climate being proposed because there are no solutions. Climate has been changing since the earth was formed, lush lands have become deserts, ice ages have come and gone, and seas have risen and fallen, and life goes on. Their hysteria is pathetic.

"and life goes on."

For some. Others aint so lucky. Mankind's time is just about up and the cosmic rest button will be mashed........again.

Back to square one and scratching our hairy butts, living in a cave and finding stuff from the past that we have no clue what it is or what it was used for. Just like today.

That mau be, but it does not lessen the stupidity of the current hysteria around "global warming."
