One of my favorite TV hosts... sad but somewhat expected given his past history of heroin addiction and heavy drinking

Celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain found dead in France at 61

American TV celebrity and food writer Anthony Bourdain has been found dead in his hotel room in France while working on his CNN series on culinary traditions around the world. He was 61.CNN confirmed the death, saying in a statement that Bourdain was found unresponsive Friday morning by friend and chef Eric Ripert in the French city of Strasbourg. It called his death a suicide.Bourdain achieved celebrity status after the publication in 2000 of his best-selling book "Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly." The book created a sensation by combining frank details of his life and career with behind-the-scenes observations on the culinary industry. It was a rare crossover — a book intended for professional cooks that had enormous mass appeal.Bourdain went on to achieve widespread fame thanks to his CNN series "Parts Unknown" — and was filming an upcoming segment for the program when he was found dead, according to CNN...Bourdain's "Parts Unknown" seemed like an odd choice for CNN when it started in 2013 — part travelogue, part history lesson, part love letter to exotic foods. Each trip was an adventure. There had been nothing quite like it on the staid news network, and it became an immediate hit.

My husband and I enjoyed his show.  Such a shame.  If people like Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain cannot get the professional mental health help they need, the outlook is horrible for the average family.

Suicide knows no income standards.   Given that Bourdain was divorced not many years ago, and was recently separated from the parent of his young child, and his long history of heroin and cocaine abuse, and his drinking, this may be less surprising than it seems.

I'll miss his show.  By using food as a tool to explore, he gave us an insight into the world few other reporters have.

No, but access to mental health care does have income standards, thanks to the messed up healthcare we have in this country.

It is rare when a TV anchor breaks down in tears during a story and several CNN anchors today did.  One, Kate Bolduan, who interviewed Bourdain often on her show and was close to him, was touching and sad.  CNN has released that video as she spoke with chef Marc Murphy and others and mentioned she, like Bourdain, have young children:

A look way back in time, Anthony Bourdain (prior to No Reservations) visits chef Gordon Ramsay's restaurant in UK (not sure on the exact date, but it was on Food Network sometime in 2001 or 2002):
