I'm interested in making my own modeling clay.  I'm not trying to save money, but enjoy doing a little chemistry to get the texture I'm looking for.  Right now I experimenting with some different calcium carbonates and mixing with a microcrystalline waxes along with different oils and greases.  I'm close but having trouble getting exactly what I'm looking for. My clay's are a little to sticky.  I also want to oil base so it doesn't dry out

Can you lead me in a better direction?  Maybe different ingredients are needed or even a good recipe.
Hope you can help.

Thanks,
Mark

Hi mdocter, While someone here at the Polymer Clay Central may be able to help you with modeling clay info, we're actually a group who uses commercially made polymer clay that requires heat curing to make it permanent. It's not a medium that lends itself to being made at home. I hope you are able to find the info you need to make modeling clay with the perfect texture.

Hi - like Anita I don't know anything about homemade clays as I want my work to be durable. If you were to put in "homemade modeling compound" in a search engine such as Google, you'd get a lot of info and recipes.

I won't recommend any such compound if you want your made items to last - and definitely not for commercial purposes like making trinkets or jewelry for sale.
