I'm posting the sites I've found that have free BOMs, patterns or quiltalongs.  These are the new 2017 events.  Some of them only have the block free for the month it's posted so we've missed the January patterns.  If you check back each month you'll be able to get them free for the rest of the year.
A one day quilt mystery will be held tomorrow on Superbowl Sunday by Homespun Hearth. You have to register for it and they will email the first clue which gives the fabric requirements and cutting instructions. The finished size is 60"x 74" and that includes the border. The only thing that gives me pause is that you have to cut 64 1" squares. Huh. Everything else looks pretty simple ... but 1" squares. Really? That would finish to 1/2" squares. Huh.
Quilt Doodle blocks released on the 1st day of the month

Jinny Beyer will have links to her 2017 BOM in her newsletter. She has a kit you can buy with the fabric she's using but the patterns are free.
Buttermilk Basin blocks released on the 2nd Friday of the month.

Apple Blossom Quilts is doing a Christmas quilt BOM. It is an appliqued row by row that will finish at 38"x 51". The patterns are sent out in the free newsletter.

WOW! you sure put in a lot of time gathering these sites. A couple I looked at when you first posted but I had no idea there were so many on your list....will look at all of them once I get this day started.

Sure is a possibility for fun. Thank you!

I always keep a running list of projects like these.  I tell myself that one day I'll actually make some of them but so far my track record is really poor.  Like, maybe one out of a thousand. lol   I'll be posting more links later, a few more 2017 and some older ones that are still available.

Yep, I still have copy paper boxes filled with patterns that I printed off.  I just can't bring myself to get rid of them.

The Piecing the Past BOW is free but you have to subscribe for it.
Just put your cursor over Free BOMs at the top and the drop down menu willl give you the rest of the patterns.

I was waiting anxiously for hazel's diary to start. I did an embroidery sewalong from that site in the past and while I am very proud that I finished embroidering the blocks, they are still sitting on the shelf, I'm sad to say. I've decided that this new pattern has just too many HSTs to tempt me. I'm off to look at all the others you've listed.

We're in the same boat.  I waited and watched for the Canning Season quiltalong to get started but I was expecting something totally different.  While I like the quilt, it isn't what I expected and I'll have to pass on it, too.  I've wanted to do one of the embroidered quilts and may do that this summer.  That's when I like to do my embroidery because it's lightweight and I can carry it around with me.

Here are some blogs with tutorials.  Some of the techniques shown are duplicated but they all have some different things, too.  Sassyquilter even has a tutorial on cleaning your sewing machine.
