Day 53 since I last had a cigarette.

Day 2 of my cold :(

I started coming down with a cold on Friday evening.   The cold has not changed much since Saturday morning.    Its still all in my sinuses.   I hope I will be on the tail end of this cold tomorrow. Luckily, tomorrow (Monday) is a holiday at my work, so I don't have to go into office.

When I was smoking, the cold would move from my sinuses down to my chest and stay there forever.   I hope that because I haven't been smoking the cold will be less severe if it does move to my chest.

It was a nice day here in San Jose, CA.   Sunny, 65 degrees.   I helped my daughter and some other girl scouts (they're brownies actually) setup a stand to sell cookies out in front of a retail store today.   I have not had a single craving or thought of smoking a cigarette all day.    Thats nice because, before I quit smoking, selling girl scout cookies for 2 hours plus a half hour drive to get to the location and half hour back, would mean 3 hours without a cigarette and that would have been my primary consideration about the day.

Well, I should get to bed and get some rest to help me get over this cold.

Thanks for reading.

Oh My Irene....I have plenty of GS Cookies if you care to pop on out to Vegas.  LOL

I cannot go anywhere around here and not bump into a Girl Scout, or her mother.  I think I am actually having more trouble with mothers.  ;-)

Have fun with the kitties!!

Hi Michelle,

Thanks for the compliment on my picture.   I don't have very many pictures of me and I grabbed that one from our employee directory at work and then found some website that converts the photo to something that looks like an illustration.  I think I look better as an illustration than as a real person. ;)

Been away from the forum for a few days... I'll have to stop by your journal and see what's been happening with you.

Hi Douglas,

Those 8 stars are looking great!   Thanks for the support and encouragement.

I think the hardest thing right now is maintaining my concentration.   I feel like its harder for me to focus as a non-smoker.

How is your workout routine and running going?

Yes, I think you are right. Sometimes I worry, though, because I'm not a great big fan of change for the most part. I just hope I like the "growth" and "development" that befall me.

But it sounds like your discoveries have tremendous capabilities to help you to a much better life -- better than you may have even thought possible. I hope so!

Hi Linda,

Thanks.  I felt much better after venting last night.   I sent an email to the principal last night and she is looking into the issue today.   And a few other parents sent me an email with support and said they are going to email the principal about the bully as well, so hopefully we will be able get the attention of the principal to take some action.

And I didn't smoke.

Irene,

I remember always wanting to sneak out, didn't matter where I was, a wedding, a funeral, the doctor's office, a symphony . . . Yes, I can enjoy all of those events so much more now, have for the past 8 1/2 years. You have important insights into the smoker's behavior and lack of self esteem. Kevin

Hi San,

Sorry it has taken me so long to reply.   Haven't been visiting my journal much.

Thanks for sharing about your experiences around bullying.   The situation seems to be much better now.   My daughter has been able to find activities to avoid being with the bully and the bully has left her alone.   My daughter has been so much happier for the past week and a half since we addressed this issue.   And on Sunday she didn't complain about having to go to school on Monday.

I do agree with your observation that its important to have some compassion for the bully and undoubtedly there is some source of pain or stress driving the bully.   I considered that in my actions and I decided that the best thing I can do to help the bully to bring attention to her behavior so that her parents or the school can try to help her.

Hi Diana,

That is an awesome Mothers Day Card.   If my daughter gives me a note like that (for father's day) when she's 18, I would feel like I must have done something right.

I am interested to hear more about your experience with Strattera over time.

Well, things are going pretty darn good right now.

-I've lost 13 pounds now since I started my diet mid-April
-Tried cooking a new dish and it turned out great... dinner was delicious
-I swam laps on Monday, did a 30 minute run/walk on Tuesday
-Did 20 minutes of pilates today
-Work is going well
-My blood pressure is down from 165/90 to 127/78 with no medication !!!

It would be so awesome if I can keep this up and exercise every day.   My plan is to swim some laps tomorrow (Thursday).

Just feeling really good.

Thanks for reading.
