The withdrawals were so crazy. Is there really a comfortable way to quit?

I am debating with myself whether is it redundant to cut down on the number of sticks i smoke per day. Sounds like i am giving an excuse to myself. but is it kinda extreme from 20 sticks per day to 0 stick per day.

Last stick i had was 9 hours ago.

The withdrawal is definitely the nicotine. I think people here would say use an ecig, or patch and wean down that way.  I have found people I know cutting back the number smoked didn’t work very well

Hi Ginger,

I am at the 6 wk. mark today. How did you blow your quit? I'm pretty close to you in my journey so I'm curious as to what happened. Mentally, I don't think I could handle losing my quit. There's no way I'm going through those first weeks again. I'm still struggling, but smoking is just not an option for me healthwise. I either have to choose to quit, and live a longer life, or keep on smoking and die much younger. There is no compromise here.

I still don't understand how some can quit and go back and then quit again. I don't understand the back and forth approach. It's just a do or don't situation for me.

Here's hoping you success this time around.

Michele

Hi Turtles,

Thanks for your information and advice.

Guess i'm still in my early days, tends to overthink much. I'll take note and go cold turkey then. needs lots of support and loves to get through this x_x

If you've been without smoking for a few days you're on board!

What a wonderful way to start a quit - a trip with your brother!

Good luck on this quit. You've already tasted freedom so you'll never be a happy mindless smoker again - that's what they've told me when I quit quitting and they were right

Hi Johnson

Two years ago I reduced from 20 to 10 before quitting. It seemed fitting at the time. I remember thinking that withdrawal wasn't so aggressive.

The truth is this time I didn't have that much time. I had a few days off work next to the weekend so I jumped right in and thought "at least I won't be at work for the worst part".

Do you have a quit date set already?

This time I was smoking 15 to 20 a day if I wasn't going out.

If I was having drinks with friends it would easily go up to 40.

Hi Johnson,

Welcome to the forum.  The way you choose to quit smoking is whatever way that helps you beat the addiction.  I would suggest reading as much here as possible and then build your quit plan and stick to it.

I was terribly addicted to cigarettes when I quit.  I had smoked over 40 yrs and it was thoroughly ingrained in every aspect of my life.  My doc put me on an anti depressant 2 months before I quit and I cut back on cigarettes for about a month up to my quit date.  I also used a prescription nicotine inhaler for about 6 weeks after I quit cigarettes.   That's what worked for me but you need what will work for you.  Through it all, the support of this forum was a major factor I my success.  You can do it.

The way you choose to quit is what is best for you.
