(Aeneas’ Tale)

Dm Dm9 Dm Dm9
Dm
I stood fast beside my brothers
Am7
As we fought to save our city
G F Am
I was there to watch so many of them die
Dm
But we lost to craft, not valor
Am7
And they burned our topless towers
G F Am
For there is no weapon stronger than a lie

Oh, I fled then, from the horror
With my son and with my father
Bore the promise of our future far away
So we passed across the water
We had lost, but were not conquered
And we journeyed on to find a place to stay

C
Oh, my children’s children’s children
F
Won’t you take the time to listen?
Dm Am G
The lessons of the fallen I would sing
C
Oh, my children’s children’s children
F
If you take the time to listen
Dm G Am
The past will teach you what the future brings

So at last we made a landing
On an empty, barren shoreline
Sighted early on a rosy-fingered dawn
We had found a new beginning
In a land beyond the sunset
Still I wondered why the Goddess drove me on

E Esus
And I dreamed…

Am Em
I dreamed my children’s children would rise up from this land
G Am
In times to come, and conquer all the world
C D F Am
Blood and iron, laws and roads, knitting close the many nations
G F Am
Until once more the city falls again…

As I woke up from my dreaming
Clear I heard my children calling
Echoing their children’s children far away
I must find them food and shelter
Here now in this land we’ve chosen
Build our future with our efforts here today
Build our future with our efforts here today

Oh, my children’s children’s children
Won’t you take the time to listen?
The lessons of the fallen I would sing
Oh, my children’s children’s children
If you take the time to listen
The past will teach you what the future brings
