Here's an interesting incident that technically happened at the writers' conference I went to this past weekend but was not part of it. We were packing to come back home and talking to another woman who had stopped by.

We got to talking about this one woman who used to be a member of our local writers' group and her fundie views. I made a comment that she thinks I'm going to hell in a handbasket because I wear a crystal and "If she thinks that now, imagine what she'd think if she knew of my beliefs."

The other woman said, "Hail to the Goddess, right, Jen?"

This was a first. :)

Well, my all-time champion inverse of 'accidental act of Pagan' was at PSG this last summer. We show up, set up, then go looking for the stage and sound people. Someone tells me I need to see George the Sound Guy at the booth. I walk over to the sound booth, do a double-take, and scream, "DUDE!"

George and I worked for the same corporate A/V company for about five years (1990-94), both in the audio department. We hung out at and away from work, had the same circle of friends, and though not best friends, definitely were farily close. And it turns out that both of us were Pagan at the time...neither of us knowing the other was. Well, not so strange, since I had Secret Service clearance for some of the work I did (political conventions, international conferences with heads of state, yadda yadda), and George also had to keep an extremely clean nose for the corporatre dudes. I'd say the broom closet involved was in the back corner of the basement.

Oh, well, things are changing...

THat is great! I know when someone comes out of the blue and says things like that to me, it makes me feel not so alone!
If you're walking on thin ice, you may as well dance.
