In my free time I like to sew and make quilts. Recently I had the idea to make a sort of fetish quilt to each element. Using differents types of symbols and items that symbolise each element. As well as connecting them with the cardinal directions and what they mean. I've had some luck with earth, fire, and water. Air is another story. I have found very little that can be translated to something visual. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Rachel

Feathers are another good air symbol...

I have some groovy feathers that are going onto it. And I'm considering embroidering a peacock feather on it. That may be beyond my skills though. Thanks so much.

You're welcome!

This sounds like it's going to be a lovely project. It would be great if you could post a pic or two when it is done!

Sounds pretty! Horns, also, are a symbol of air, if you have any appliques or embroidery patterns for trumpets or the like.

Thanks, I will post some pics. It may be awhile. I'm finding it's a way to learn and connect. I was at the library the other day and the current artwork that was up was several watercolors of faeries. Earth... Water... Fire.... No air.... Spring.... Summer... Autumn.... Winter... I find it interestng and curious that air is essentially ignored. No one really pays attention. Well, until it hits 100 miles an hour and becomes destructive and then it's a big deal. But when the hurricane dies down it's again forgotten except by those few sailors left who go out.

Horns... that's one to think about. I wonder would musical notes apply too. Music when it's live, it floats on the air and is quickly past. hmmmm

:)

I would think musical notes would work well - what is music but a vibration in the air?
