I was trying this spell, mostly because I didn't know any other way of going about what I wanted to do in a safe and sane matter. When it came to the part of letting the ashes and herbs go, I did so off my balcony, and they landed in my downstairs neighbours' garden (!) I'm sure that's not too much of a problem, but we're not expecting rain any time soon; I hope the ashes and cinnamon don't catch a fire or anything. I was burning the letter in the kitchen sink, so the ashes ended up being a pretty moist paste. I hope this keeps things damp enough. I'd go out and water the garden, but that would look pretty suspicious. I should have gone out the front door and just let the ashes go in my garden, and then watered it afterward. Does anyone know the affect of a few damp ashes in a garden during the hot weather?

You'd have to water very well, until the ashes were dispersed completely, as water mixed with ash can create lye, which is acidic.

From a magickal stand-point however, it would not be a good idea. You are basically "watering-down" the spell, and from a symbolic perspective it's not good for the spell.

Ashes should be released onto a breeze or allowed to sit out until they are carried off by the wind. Burning the ashes in a completely dry bowl (the shallower the better) is a better idea. Just let the bowl sit out in the open air until they are carried away.

I will remember that. Thanks Mythblade! There's a slight breeze today, so hopefully that helps. I'll remember to use something completely dry next time too.

I wonder why the particular spell says not to use with communicating with the dead... nothing in it seems dangerous to me. I've communicated with them before without trying and it's never harmed me, and I intend to try on Sam's death anniversary... I wrote my own thing for that tho.

Yes, I found that to be rather odd too.

They still make them?? Halliburton, the oil company, I know at least used to make those. They still do? I remember my dad talking about it once.
