Woman With Fatal Condition Caused By Faith Healing Wants Her Parents Prosecuted

By David G. McAfee

Mariah Walton, a 20-year-old woman awaiting a heart and lung transplant, said she thinks her parents and other faith healers should face criminal charges for “treating” her with prayer instead of medicine.

It’s a tale as old as time: girl is born with a small hole in her heart, her parents refuse to get it fixed and instead ask God to oversee her well-being, girl is now permanently disabled due to years of being refused care. The twist, however, is that Walton — unlike many faith healing victims — lived on to call for her parents’ prosecution and to condemn the practice in general.

“It would have been solved. If I had a surgery when I was one year old, I would have been just fine,” Walton said in an interview with KTVB News. She said she can’t run, misses a lot of school, and gets sick easily because of her weakened immune system.

And she's absolutely right!

O Lord, Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me a sinner.

Hell: Once full of captives - now staffed by volunteers.

Christ didn't write a book.  He founded the Church.  I know what the Scriptures say because I know what the Church says.

Protestants debating doctrine are like feral cats fighting over a plastic fish.

I feel they should too.

It's different if an adult wishes to engage in faith healing over medicine/medical procedures, but for a minor child no. If the parents want to engage in faith healing in addition to medical treatment...go for it.

How you been holding up Sasha?

Hey, we agree on something!

As for me, still slowly losing ground.  I now sit in a wheelchair most of the day.  Walking even a short distance is exhausting.  Curbs and stairs are almost insurmountable.  Swelling in my legs is getting worse.  I doubt I'll see my next birthday.  Other than that, life is grand!

*chuckles* Yes, now and then, here and there we do agree on some things.

Glad to hear you're still hanging in there and hope for the main part it's relatively pain free...

You would think by this day and age such things would no longer be allowed. Freedom of religion for adults should not be given more of a standing than the rights of their minor children's health.

I believe in faith healing but I am also grateful for the knowledge & skill doctors have.  My wife and I lost our little boy Mark Alan when he was 10 days old due to a hear defect.  We asked the doctors to do all they could while we prayed but God chose to take our son home.

Even when doctors operate, it is still God who heals the body.

Can I assume that was a typo and you meant heart defect?

I'm sorry you pray to a gawd who, for whatever reasons, had a grudge against your newborn son.

If your gawd and only your gawd heals the body, is your gawd also responsible for the millions of people who die from cancer?

I'm sorry you lost your son even if I don't agree with you on the whole god thing.
