KABUL * At least 12 people were killed, three of them children, and 20 others were wounded when a car bomb exploded near the Kabul airport early yesterday, Afghan officials said. It was the first major attack on the Afghan capital after about a month of relative calm.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the rush-hour attack, which came a day after the Afghan government agreed to a prisoner exchange with Taleban insurgents in the hope of reviving peace talks.

WARMING - UPDATE ON THE  VIOLENT THUGS!!

The Afghan Ministry of Defense confirmed the death of nine soldiers, and the Taliban said 32 had been killed, but their claims of casualties are mostly exaggerated.

At Least 23 Soldiers Killed in Insider Attack in Afghanistan.

A Taliban infiltrator opened fire on soldiers as they were sleeping in a military base in Ghazni Province, officials said.

KABUL, Afghanistan — At least 23 soldiers were killed while they were sleeping on Saturday in an insider attack in eastern Afghanistan, officials said, the latest episode of enemy infiltration that has raised concerns about a new local military force billed as the hope for holding territory recaptured from the Taliban. The Taliban infiltrator, who was on duty at a military base in Ghazni Province, opened fire on his colleagues, wiping out almost the whole unit, officials said. The attacker then seized all weapons and equipment in the base and joined the insurgency.
