Benjamin Franklin was the Founding Fathers of the United States. Also seen as a polymath, he was a leading writer and political philosopher, scientist, inventor, humorist, civic activist, statesman, and sometimes a diplomat.

Our governments need to be on our borders securing our countries, not trying to save us from each other.  Here are a couple good ones:

"Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."
-- Benjamin Franklin

"If you want total security, go to prison. There you're fed, clothed, given medical care and so on. The only thing lacking... is freedom."
-- Dwight D. Eisenhower
