How exciting! I would have been freaked out for sure. All your grandchildren will be special to you, but this one will have a special connection to you.

Wow! My daughter is looking for a part time midwife at her Birthing Center, Do you want her email addy to send her your resume? Great job and beautiful baby.

Lol. I tell you, she started labor about 7am and texted the midwife “I’m in labor”. She texted back “let me know when you’re at 3-5 minutes apart for 1hour”
well we were using the iPhone baby app. That records your contractions and she was all over the map with times etc. so at 12:00 she said text her it’s time now. And then within 5 minutes said mom My body is pushing and I can’t stop it. So I called the midwife and said where are you he’s coming and she said she was 25 minutes out. I said he’s crowning and laid the phone down. All she could do is yell affirmations. (We never really heard her).
shelley, in the meantime after about 7:30 everything was ready and I was waiting for her to come to my room (where she birthed in my big garden tub) and so I googled “emergency deliveries” and read about it just to kill time.
It of course didn’t prepare me enough, but we gotter done. All of you are so right I do need to write it all down. I will today while so vivid in my mind.

Wow - what an amazing experience - but scary too. I'm so glad it turned out well. Your new little grandson is adorable. Congrats Grandma!

When I was 16, I worked in a small hospital in Wewoka, OK where I lived. Over a couple of summers, I got to be the delivery room and saw seven babies born (one was named after me and a nurse!).
My hat is certainly off to you, Grandma. What a blessing that you were there and able to let your instincts kick in. I don't think I could do it.
