Hey, Dee, I just wrote that I was going to do one of Fassett's simple strip quilts?  I'm off and running on a new project from his book Quilts in America  (wish the forum allowed  underlining!)

On page 112 there's a humdinger called "Red Ribbons" but I am going to re-name it "Hot to Trot" because I do not consider the fabrics in his company's kit to be very "red".  Get a load of them in the attached photo. 

As I sliced the fabrics in my new AccuQuilt (a marvelous contraption indeed!) I cut off a schnibble and glued it to a bit of corrugated cardboard just so I could keep track of how I am using these bands of color.  So I'm a bit OCD in the random game, yes?

Here are my very first rows of stitching in the center square of the quilt. 

I think I'm feeling the heat from this quilt already. 

That's going to be one awesome quilt!  You have a truly "hot" selection of colors there.

That certainly is going to be stunning, Judy.  Almost glows in the dark.  But is that pink I'm seeing in there?  

Yes, there is some pink in there.  (Hanging head in shame.) 

When you buy a kit from Kaffe Fassett you accept what the master deals out. 

There were some substituted fabrics from those in the original quilt shown in the photo because the original prints had gone out of production but that could not be helped.  And I have also found some of the Fassett fabrics feel a bit "flimsy-ish" to my way of thinking, more like dress fabrics than quilt fabrics.  More like Liberty of London dress goods.

Oh, well, I tell myself I won't live long enough to wear this thing out. 

After 13 plus years I have finally figured out how the needle threaded on my machine works.  I was shown when I purchased the machine, Reshown a number of times on request when I had the machine serviced, but could never get the threader to work for me.  I have tried a number of times over the years but it only created frustration at a high level. Than last week I was reading the blog rachelrossidesign and she had a video, very clear, very slow and now I can use the needle threaded.  Now to remember to use it.

Put a small label sticker on your machine near the needle area (the kind of label offices put on file folders) with the name "rachelrossidesign" on it as a memory jogger.

That will indeed be a "hot " quilt.  Enjoy making it.  Are you wearing oven mitts?

Jo, I don't use mine because it rarely works.  Easier to thread myself.  Maybe the problem is me.  I have considered that I may just not have had the patience to learn to use it correctly.

Cathy, I was thinking like you, either the threader is defective or I am.  But after I watch the short video and understood how a threader worked I was able to figure out how to make mine work for me.
