Mr Pirate & I are on a road trip (DD#3 is holding down the fort).  I've prepped 3 of my Art Deco blocks to work on.   One of them was started previously and I was able to finish it just a few minutes ago.

Oops .. and I see now that the photo is sideways.  Ah well.  Manipulating it on my cell phone is beyond my patience limit!

Do pardon the sunshine and shadows on the photo... the sun is coming in through my passenger window and can't be avoided.

eh...it's still gorgeous even if it IS sideways!!! I like Calla Lilies!!

So you have 2 more blocks with you?  How long is your roadtrip?  I assume it is the same one where you went to the quilt show?  Where to next?    

Really pretty. The lens on my cellphone is cracked so my photos are pretty bad. I have DH old phone, just need to get it switched as it is on much better condition than mine.

Sounds like you two are on quite the roadtrip.

Yes, I have 2 more blocks ready to be appliqued .. that's all I could prep before we left.  (I usually prep them as I needed them, one at a time.  But it's easier to prep the blocks at home than on the road, as I would need to bring my fabrics with me!)

This is a different trip than the quilt show one.  We are visiting Valley of Fire in Nevada, near Las Vegas.   It is an obnoxiously long drive there and back but we aren't in a hurry and we bring our "motel room" with us.

Judy, I LOVE that fabric!  I made a strip quilt with it--wish I could attach a pic from my kindle.  I would call it a "dot dot dot, long dash, dot dot dot" design.  Longish color strip in the middle of each row and then 3 color squares separated by 3 background squares, and ending with a short length of background.  It was a fun pattern, but the fabric really made the quilt!

I also bought the same set in blue/aqua/hot pink colors.  Kaffe's designs are just so alive!

You have a wonderful pattern to use them in-- definitely some sunshine on a cloudy day (wait...that's a song, isn't it?)

Thanks for your enthusiasm, Sue.  Right now the quilt parts are sitting neglected on Cecil Faye because I have been sidetracked into an online polymer clay class with Dan Cormier and it is a doozy. Dan is a demanding instructor and I keep muttering to myself that I was a doofus to sign up for this particular class but I must soldier on because I've invested lotsa money in the course. 

Results might be spectacular .... or a disaster.  Time will well.  A design with twenty-four layers of clay is supposed to wind up only 1.25 inches thick on the first project.  Hmmmmph!  I'm trying, I'm trying.

Your process makes me think of a Great British Baking Show episode I watched last night.  The baker started with about 1/4" of dough and an inch thick slab of butter.  He beat, rolled out, folded, rolled out again about 20 times.  The result was a paper thin layer of puff pastry that became a shell for a chocolate tart.  It looked wonderful!  So I hope your project of many layers has a fantastic outcome as well!

My 24 layers of polymer clay missed the mark. Photo shows they wound up 1 3/8 inches thick, not 1 1/4 inches thick. But I am too frazzled to start over again.

Plus my layers are not picture perfect like those of the other students.  I am convinced that some of the other students must be robots.
