Yeah, the plan is to still applique all the smooshed hexies onto a background, but I think I want a less zig-zaggy edge at this point.

I *also* made a basic mistake when I was constructing the very first row but didn't discover the error until a couple of rows in .. when I was wondering why the heck the hexies weren't lining up as I expected.  It turned out that on that very first row, I didn't align the hexies in the correct orientation.  Sigh.  Well ... I decided just to leave it the way it was.  Consider it a "design opportunity".  :-)

I'm thinking that hexies, cleverly disguised as green "leaves" might add a bit of interest around the perimeter.  We'll see how that goes.  :-)

I can’t open the link to your photos.  I’ll try again in the morning. Hoping to get some string quilt ideas. I’ve finished my 4th one this month.  

What a great idea to turn it into a tree skirt.  Now it will even be used.  Win, win!

I really love the 3 Dudes Tree quilt.  Would you post a link where I can find the pattern.  I tried searching on-line and couldn't find it.

Christmas is over with only a few mishaps.  I enjoy the season but I'm also very glad when it is over and things can get back to "normal".  Got the food put away, the tree is down.  Will get everything else put up tomorrow except for the outside lights.  We'll leave those up until next week.

On a fun note, our neighborhood has a lighting contest every year.  There are three categories: 1. Modern 2. Nostalgic 3. Clark Griswold.  We won for Nostalgic this year, woohoo!  Of course it is nostalgic.  Same lights we have been putting up for 20 years lol.  Might go for Clark Griswold next year.

My parents' neighborhood is one of those 'over achievers' areas...there are TONS of lights and decorations and fake snow and glittery stuff  and things for littles to climb on  and Christmas Carols playing and places for photos and a whole boat load of the inflatables...there are a bunch of them that got awards from their city. The neighbors do the decorating for my parents (they are 90 and 89...and very disabled)  - its so nice that the neighbors take care of  my parents that way! Car load after car load come by every night from Thanksgiving to New Years~ if you are not parked by nightfall (or have a driveway), you might just have to park across the street in the church yard! My Sis is planning on dressing up as Mrs Santa (though she could be a cute Elf) next year and passing out candy canes...

We had a turkey feast. Was going to make pie for dessert..but we are too stuffed to eat it! maybe tomorrow...though G does not 'need' any more dessert - one of his gifts from our daughter was Gingerbread cookies...and he toasted the whole tin on Christmas Eve!!! I leave the decorations up until Jan 6th (Epiphany or Twelveth Night)...We got some solar powered lights and wow..they are the cats pajamas for decorating the yard! The tree of course does not get put down anymore (its too heavy for me to move...) so it goes back to being decorated with my cow and squirrel collections...

one of the things I made this year was a sensory mat for my Mama...she can't see very well anymore, can't hear much, and can't walk or even move much..but she can still touch stuff ...each thing on this mat is a bit different...there are multiple kinds of flowers, lots of buttons, different textures of fabrics, ribbons, laces and trims..everything is very securely fastened...mostly using embroidery thread!
