all done & hung.  The rod is a bit low but not worth moving it.  Good point about the washing.  I used Warm & White, so it won't really crinkle too much anyway.

 She also has a freehand baptist fan that I've done that I like also - picture from class - I don't see a video on this one but I'm sure you can figure it out.  It is more freeform, doesn't follow rows.

Wowsers!  A free-form Baptist Fan???  I do like the look!  And that sure would be a lot easier to quilt,  as you don't need to do all that backtracking!  Thanks for the link.

there are two versions.  One is pointy, the other more random.  I couldn't find a free video of the random one, but here is the picture of the one I did as a practice.  I was surprised how easy it was - I only got lost a couple of times on which way to go with the 1st (center) circle/arc.  the teacher has a number of free videos.  I like her voice & pace, though she does repeat a bit after a while.  I've gotten a number of hints from her that have helped me - my fav is using a plexiglas sheet & dry erase marker to preview AND PRACTICE a design.  For some reason I like it better than paper - maybe because it's so easy to erase and try again.  I already had a sheet lying around, but now I want to go get a couple more.

I've used a plastic sheet & dry erase marker to preview & practice a design right on the quilt top also.  I like this technique because it lets you see it in the proper scale.  Many times, when I've printed out a copy of the quilt top, the design seems great on paper but when I get to the actual top, the scale is horribly wrong.  :-(

I have been using the plastic and dry erase. I love that you can just put it over the quilt and see how it will look on your fabric.

I had been using a piece of clear vinyl but I like the plexiglass better to practice on.  It feels more secure.  Susan suggests you put tape all around the edges to prevent erasing off onto the fabric which is also a great tip.  I would like more pieces tho so I could audition multiple patterns at once.
