Finally I have time to get back here.  It took me a few slow days to "recover" from the retreat.  Then checked our calendar and realized DH had added a half dozen appointments onto our calendar.  We are in "selections" mode with our designers to begin to get things ordered so their arrival schedule can be anticipated.  We had 4 appointments in the last two weeks!!  But our designers have said we have done good and we have gotten a lot done.  Whew!

This is the part of this building project I have not been looking forward to doing.  DH keeps reminding me to enjoy the process and have fun(!!) but I'm so nervous about not considering EVERYTHING and making the permanent and wrong decisions.  For the kitchen counters, island and backsplash decisions I did not defer to DH and, most importantly I stood up for what I liked.  Which is not what I naturally do being an amiable personality style.  DH has longed for me to enjoy this process and when he saw me declare the set of samples I chose (around the color blue) so definitively in the of the table he got a huge smile on his face and said, "The kitchen has been decided!"

PS - I have to admit this is such an unusual and big deal to me I wanted to share it with someone(s).  Thanks for indulging me.

Not only is DH going to enjoy the process, it appears he has also made a hard and fast decision to have fun seeing you enjoy the process.  Just breath and remember your not building a human who characteristic and personality you have to decide upon, but a house where as long as there is love and understanding will be a home.

Enjoy the process!

I am tickled by his drone work... the Kessel Run and Dirthenge...lol. Basement is starting to take shape.

Y'all will have a full set of documentation.

Good for you making the decision you want. I have ahard time getting to be the one to choose something for the house. It will be exciting for you to see your kitchen vision become reality.

Judy,  Your choices look great! I like them.   I hope you do enjoy the process, it’s fun to be there and watch as the building progresses.

We caught a few mistakes on our place we had built many years ago and fortunately were able to have them corrected before the builder was too far along.  The most important to us was front windows.  Imagine we wanted to look out at the lake we were on and see the beautiful view from all angles of the room, ie., living, dining & kitchen.  We had a cathedral  prow front and the window bases were supposed to be positioned 18’’ from the floor and they put in smaller windows that were 36” off the floor.  We were disappointed we couldn’t see the lake view from around the room, so we quickly called and asked them to be corrected.  The right size windows were clearly on the plans, but sometimes mistakes do happen.   Best of luck with the whole process.
