Tobi Over The Rainbow Bridge   General Discussion

Started Mar-7 by Ami_Quilts (sewingupasto); 563 views.

Poor Mr Tobi our little Aussie Shepard family dog crossed the rainbow Bridge last night. We think he was about 14. His story with us began many years back when I was in a Petsmart and heard some serious barking coming from the dog adoption area. For some reason I felt compelled to go check it out. Well the black, rust and white dog and I locked eyes and there was a connection. Later that day my daughter's were in town and I had told them about the cute dog. Some weeks passed and I found out they were still looking at him on the website and he had not been adopted. We decided to surprise my younger one with him as a birthday gift. Tobi was quite the dog! Cute, very agile, full of energy. He only had two downfalls. He nipped people on the back of the heels, we did not know this until he had been with us for a few months as he nipped my daughter's friend when she was over for a visit. This was a problem because we never knew who would set him off. He also did not like cats. In spite of this he was the most loving faithful creature at home. Each family member had a period when he lived with just them for a bit. My little one got him back the last 4 years. He calmed down in his older years and was no longer nipping anyone on the heels. Well a couple of days ago he stopped eating and just lying on the floor instead of on the dog bed. He was taken to the vet and DD was given bad news about him. We knew that he was getting up there in age and that this day was coming but it sure happened fast. Gonna miss Tobi, he was such a character and gave our family so much love and devotion over the past 13 years.

Thanks Mel. We saw him two weeks ago and he had slowed down for sure but was so happy to see us.

oh, so sorry to hear this news, Ami.   Pets become a real member of the family and it's tough to lose them, even when we are prepared.

Sounds like it was Mr Tobi's lucky day when you went in to that Petsmart store and heard him barking. How else could that little guy have joined your family and had such a good life with all of you? Rescue dogs are the best.

(And as for the nipping ... well, that's how he herded critters, two-legged or four-legged.)

So true, both girls are really broken up.

So true in spite of his problems he was such a fun dog!

I'm so sorry to read this.  It's amazing how our pets take such a big chunk of your heart.  Their love is unconditional.
