Our local guild has a fund raising auction every other year. So today I am helping to hang the quilts and one of the men says there's a label on this one. I look at it and OMG! You'll never believe who made that quilt - one of the about.com gang who came to the AZ retreat several years ago. So the way we got it is the pattern designer J. Michelle Watts taught a program here a few months ago and offered to donate one of the quilts from her collection. We thought she would donate one of hers but apparently she donated Sophie's quilt - no idea how she came to have it. Maybe she taught a class at the guild in NM and got it then. Seriously weird to see someone's name from the old About.com forum on a quilt in Weatherford TX. And I bought the quilt, Marion will love it given the name & the colors.

I don't remember her but I remember being afraid to try those blocks and send in lower than best. Then kicking myself!

That must have been one of the many bright log cabin swaps. I did enough of those swaps to make a quilt too. Sophie still lives in Santa Fe. She used to be quite active on about.com and did lots of fun swaps.

Are you talking about the same Sophie that I met up with at the National Quilting Association show in Columbus, Ohio in 2008? (My hair was redder and I was significantly heavier so Sophie's looks might have changed as well.)

Looking at Sophie's quilt again and zoomed in. I remember that spiral quilt pattern and a lot discussion about how to do it. It became quite popular on quilt blogs for awhile and then disappeared.

WOW!! That is a blast from the past!!
Maybe more of an... explosion!! I recall her as an avid quilter and her hosting swaps enthusiastically kept them going for a time.
I still love the way my LBLC quilt turned out. Especially after Ami quilted it for me!! That was a real splurge. I'm trying to plan where it may go in the new house to really see it in all of its bright glory!
