Oh me too.   Random and I don't really mix!

Well, I have not been here for a week because I have been on a family history and genealogy trip to North Carolina and Georgia.  Learned some VERY interesting history about my family, lost count of the old cemeteries we visited, and took dozens of photos.  I still have not uploaded all of the photos to Facebook for the relatives who were unable to go on the trip with us.

The last thing my sister and I did before I flew back home was to visit the John C. Campbell Folk School, located in Brasstown, North Carolina.  What an amazing place!  They give lessons in an y type of art or craft you can imagine.  I am now trying to figure out a way to go back and take some classes there.  If you ever get to visit the place or take a class there, do it.  In the meantime, check out their website and their catalog of classes:

Thanks for sharing that information about the  Folk School.  I'm sending the link off to my DD who I suspect would love to spend some of her vacation time there.

I'm sure it was a bit of a challenge to load and quilt but it will bring her lots of happy memories.

Some just can't really do "random".  You are probably one of them.

I approach random as you sew on what ever fabric you pick up unless it is the same as what you just sewed on.    Judy, in you quilt I'm not sure it would be noticed if  that orange dot was the same as one of the fabrics it touched.

I saw your pictures on FB but didn't know it was a genealogy trip.  How fun.  How many of you went?  That would be  reunion of your own.  The folk school looks very interesting.  I'll have to remember it if one of our road trips takes us in that direction.

On our recent road trip, I had prepped 3 of the Art Deco blocks to work on.  I finished 2 of them and had posted a photo of one of them previously.  

This is the second Art Deco block I finished during the trip.  In fact, one of the "lovely towns" we drove through was Mojave, CA ... a lonely desert town that really doesn't have anything to recommend itself.. EXCEPT that our very own Ami (SewingUpAStorm) has been living there, as her favorite husband works there as a space engineer (if I am remembering correctly).   

Mr. Pirate was receptive to the idea of stopping for a *BRIEF* chit-chat on our way through the town en route to our final destination.  It was totally out of the blue, as I had actually forgotten that she was there.   Our visit was only 45 minutes, as we had miles to yet travel.  However, on the return journey, we had no such time restriction and we actually spent the night at Ami's RV park, where she & I had a wonderful and lively conversation well into the night.

As we were chatting, I was working on the block below and because I was SO CLOSE to finishing it when Ami left, I simply stayed up a little longer and finished that second block.

Some of those flower petals are awesomely complex.  My mind has been boggled again.

How fortunate that you remembered that you were passing through Ami's neighborhood.
