I'm behind so don't know if this has been addressed.  There are ball point needles for longarms and several well renowned longarmers swear by them.

I took a serge class a couple of years ago and they showed an example of what happens to knits sewn with a regular needle. With washing and wear the area around the seams were pretty tattered. For knits always use a ballpoint.

Your cathedral windows quilt looks beautiful.
