It was totally a cutting day.  I cut HSTs to make pinwheels for a baby quilt and a bunch of pieces for a block called "crossing canoes".   I won't get to sew any of them for another week or two.  Friday we are driving to Arlington, TX for our granddaughter's High School graduation.  We are driving straight through, about 16 hours.  Graduation is being held in a brand new professional stadium.  There are less than 70 graduates in the class so there will be plenty of room for "social distancing".  We also have masks and hand sanitizer.  So many graduation events were cancelled this year, I'm glad she gets a graduation ceremony.  Now to see if the Culinary Arts Institute in New York opens for classes in August.    I'm not counting on that.

I totally understand, doing the same here. The gold would pick up the gold in the focus fabric so I say go for it.

I bet a gold inner border and a wider focus fabric outer border would look great! Lay it out and see what you think.

Weren't you working mindless string blocks?

I saw this layout, which was recently posted in a FB group, and I thought of you.

Maple Island has a lot of patterns that allow you to have fun with large print focus fabrics.

That's very flattering that you thought of me when you saw that layout of string blocks but I've already gone down a different path in an attempt to clear out the many varieties of blah "neutrals" that have crept into my sewing room over the decades. (How did such a rowdy personality get loaded down with so many tame neutrals? I cannot explain this fact of quilting life.)

Anyhow, one basket of  bright strings cut from my scrap bins is meeting up with a box of blah strings and they are promising to play nicely together thanks to Jenny Doan's 10 inch square paper foundations.

Thus far I have eight blocks pinned to the design wall. It will become an off-center "bull's-eye" kind of pattern. There is no destination for this quilt yet.

Perhaps I will give the top to my "Church Ladies" who used to make fleece blankets and small quilts for my Project Linus group years ago.  I gave them all of my blue fabrics and green fabrics not too long ago just to clear off some shelf space in my sewing room so I know that they are still an active group.

Love your string blocks, Judy.  That is going to be a nifty quilt when you are finished.  how big do you think it might be?  I have tons of strings I need to do something with hmmm,, Better not go down that rabbit hole until I get myself out of the one I'm in.

I will make this large enough for a regular size (double) bed, I think.  The " Church Ladies" were very happy with my boxes of blues and greens when I hauled them into their fabric workshop room; they told me that they had taken on quilt making for a place that shelters unwed mothers and their babies. They said they would mix my fabrics with whites, pinks and yellows for calming quilts. Whatever. (Some of my novelties have elements of Dee's "I Spy" in them so I think these blocks jumbled in a quilt might surprise a young mother.)

I like your layout so far.  i haven't tried an off center layout.
