I just thought I’d post here. Yesterday I was binding a charity quilt. When done,I decided to dig in my boxes of squares. I still had a lot of 3” squares. So I made a decision....
the explosion in Beirut damaged 3 of 4 containers sitting in port waiting for dispersing by one of the charity organizations that I contribute to. They lost 22,000 quilts, plus school and health kits. It makes me so sad to think about the 22.000 quilts that are now needed even more desperately than before!
they want quilts that are at least 60 x 80. The scrap mystery quilt I finished a week or so ago was 60” square. So! I got put my 3” squares and made more 4 patches! My mystery quilt is now 60 x 80 and ready to finish for LWR! Lol, still have more 3” squares.....

22,000 quilts lost?! Holy cow, that's a lot of quilts! All that charity work lost, so sad.

Yes it is heartbreaking to think of the lost quilts! And I sure feel for that devastated people over there.
Isn’t it hard to just comprehend 22,000 quilts? Just gone in a moment....

22,000, that is alot. So terrible what was destroyed, And much of their grain stores were destroyed also. Really sad.

Wow, Ellen, you're so prolific! Do you ever make quilts for fun, for yourself or family anymore?

I haven’t made one for me since this one last year....
doing lots and lots of charity right now. I’m not teaching, so no need to make samples. Using up stuff....

That's stunning! :)
I prefer to work on my own stuff. Being able to use fabric and colors that I really enjoy to make something for someone I love is what makes me happy :D

well I'm back to t-shirt quilts. Making 3 for a coworker who has been saying she wanted one for at least 5 years. She finally got the shirts organized, one for her daughter who is special needs, one who is in a sorority, and one for her with Pier 1 shirts. And I'm doing 3 other Pier 1 quilts as gifts. so that's 6. I'm getting pretty good at this. And fortunately the interfacing I use seems to be back in stock, JoAnn's isn't limiting quantity any more. So I bought a 30 yd bolt in white and a 20 yd bolt in black. It takes about 5-7 yards per quilt so that should be enough for this batch.
I'm also thinking of making a lap quilt for daughter out of some fabrics I got from a friend who is cleaning out her stash. I wanted some of the reds but she was selling in batches so had to take these homespuns too. Any suggestions on a pattern for those stripes & plaids?
