Not all the industrial machines have a walking foot. The one I am using for this project is DBIL "heavyduty" as the fabric is quite heavy and quite the challenge to feed thru the machine. It is some kind of heavy vinyl looking and has no weave, so it will be wind and waterproof. The thread I am using is extremely thick as well and is on a mega huge industrial spool. I finished the last panel yesterday so my part is mostly done. DBIL said there will be a few tweaks as he does the installation but those should not take a huge amount of time.

I agree with Jonna. Put a simple plain, more of the creamy beige. Maybe add in some straps of the red. You could do the 9 patches in the corner and add three borders coming off the nine patch. 

I'd say we are blessed women, to have a stable of metal machines.  They WORK all the time for the most part.  My plastic Janome is a mess. It's in the garage until I decide what to do with it.  I "should" have put it on the trash hauler's truck when I had some larger items taken away.  But I forgot.  LOL 

I sew mostly on my 301"s, 401's and my featherweight, although they all make me happy.  Now back to the fabric.. it's screaming my name.. LOL  

I took time away from the sewing to make a huge pot of veggies/beef soup.  My freezer is empty of all soups and winter is almost here.  I love having two serving baggies of soup "on the ready".  I do the same with pasta dishes too.  AND my Chili Relleno Breakfast casserole.  Cut that puppy into 12 servings and never have to worry about breakfast. I do the same with waffles.  I'm big on cooking once so I have meals on hand. 

I'm the laziest person you'll ever meet.. If there's a softer easier way to do something.. by golly I try to find it..

I found this heart block used in sashing on FB's applique group and felt it was very appropriate since this is for my daughter.  I haven't decided how far they will go, probably not all the way to the edge and definitely not all the way around.  I'm getting excited to start quilting on this.  There's a chance it might be done in time for Christmas.

I am really enjoying the "evolution" of this quilt you are creating for your daughter.  Love the color scheme and I am going to be a "monkey see, monkey do" with the next project I tackle and use your muted red and beige tones on a foundation piecing project I have in mind.

It is always fun to see how we get inspired and spring new project off each other. For me with Dee's project it is the beautiful applique in the middle. I have really gotten into my applique again this year in  big way.

thanks Judy.  Love taking you guys "along for the ride" so to speak.  The colors aren't my usual, and it's been fun to work with fabrics I would not normally have purchased.  But getting them all in a group inspired me to try something different and I have really enjoyed it.  Something about that pink plaid is just comfortable, which is saying a lot as I have never been fond of pink.  I did have to purchase some additional beige as there were only some qtr yds of those in the batch but fortunately my friend had told me the fabric line name and my LQS still carries it.  (French General by Moda).  The grayish beige they had isn't absolutely perfect match but close enough for a scrappy quilt.  It has kind of a vague linen look too it that is nice.  Not sure if you can tell from the picture, but there are a lot of nice texture in the fabrics.  the plaid is woven and soft.

thanks Ami.  I'm even excited about the quilting - not usual for me.  Also thinking about adding some embroidery in the border instead of a label.  Marion has seen me working on it and I've shown her pictures so it won't be a surprise.  But I know she will appreciate it.  Her apartment has so many quilts you'd think she was a quilter.  She has told me people have asked about the one hanging over her sofa as it's in all her zoom class pictures - very bright and distinctive.  She has a real sofa now instead of the futon below, a big overstuffed gray sofa, this quilt will look nice wadded up on it since she rarely folds anything - ha
