DONE!!  oh my goodness!  I am FINISHED with the quilting!  Whew.

The not-bound measurements are 104"x120" so when I got done with everything top to bottom on the 104" side, I needed to turn the quilt so that I could quilt the side borders as one long, horizontal row .. so much easier than advancing the quilt every 13" or so to do the borders.

But, I had one small problem ... my frame is 10'.  10' * 12" = 120" of rails.  There is some dead space at each end, yielding about 108" of useable length.  Well .... 108" < 120", so I had a problem.  But, I employed some "creative" thinking and was able to quilt the very ends, as well as (obviously) the easily accessible part of the row.

I am SO pleased that this behemoth is done.  Next step: trim and bind.  I already have the binding made ... and I even know where it is!  A major accomplishment.  :-)

Gosh, I'm glad to have this huge piece of real estate completed.  :-)    This was one of my longer Forever Projects, as I started making the hexies in 2013.   I wasn't in a hurry, so it took some time to get the top one.  I still wasn't in a hurry, so the flimsy sat for a good long while.  And I still wasn't in a hurry to load and quilt it.  But now, 7 years later, it is out of the storage, I've used up a BIG roll of king-sized batting and this long term project is *almost* done.  Hooray!  :-)

Congratulations on creating such a breathtaking quilt!

You have set a good example for one and all. We have read many stories about lost bindings over the years here on the forum.

That's a lot of binding to stitch down but you will be humming a happy tune while you work on it, I'm sure.

Congrats on the finish, won't be long now til that beautiful quilt is decorating you bed.

I bet you are glad to get that huge real estate off your quilt frame!!!! I have a 14' frame and have actually had 4 quilts on there that took up all the usable space. True story I have also loaded rug mugs on this frame LOL!!! Your quilt is beautiful and I am sure your DD will treasure it on her bed. Now go load the next quilt ASAP so you will have it there when you are ready to quilt again. Loading is my least favorite part of longarming so I always try to get a quilt loaded as soon as I take one off. There have been time when they sit there for a long time but when I feel ready to quilt that part is done and it is ready to go.

I have a blue and orange mountain majesty quilt loaded on my frame and have already done quite a bit on it so far but I am in New Mexico AGAIN for a few days so it is waiting for me to get back to Colorado.

My longest forever project I started in 1998 and bound in 2018 or so was my handquilted wolf. I actually made the binding when I pieced the quilt way back in 1998 and I managed to keep track of it all those years so it was ready to go when I finally got to that step many years later.

And then I bought a Freddie.

Haven't heard of that.  Sure hope you enjoy it.  You will use it.  Did you finish Sandy's quilt or did you save it for the new machine?  Enjoy!
