well, it isn't as bad as it might be.  It is "family" and the wife is a quilter so she understands.  But it does limit my access.  the husband was here a few weeks ago by himself for a couple of days.  So I grabbed my retreat stuff and set up in my office.  It worked out fine, used the kitchen counter for cutting like I used to before we built the addition.

one kit done. The layout on this one is the most difficult, making sure you get the triangles going the correct direction and the spacing between the solid squares right.  I kept counting "one down, two left, 4 between".  Definitely not intuitive, but the resulting interlocking friendship stars is pretty cool.

I decided I wanted a small bag for my small iron to take to the local quilt retreat Wed.  Though I need to get a zipper foot for my Janome 1600.  The one on my little Gem is terrible!  Actually I've discovered the feed dogs just don't work great on my Gem unless it's the A or F (universal or general) feet.  All the other feet the fabric doesn't make good contact with the feed dogs and I'm basically moving the fabric manually.  Trying to use the quarter inch foot is a very frustrating.  So I'm just using the regular foot and moving the needle over - not a big deal but a little frustrating.  Makes me not love my Gem as much as I once though.

Anyway, bag is done, lined with the silver padded ironing board fabric.  That was a little challenging to deal with when turning a small bag, but other than a few lumps, it's fine.  I had to hand stitch the lining closed as there was no way to get it under the needle with that this padding.  The outside fabric matches my TV tray/pressing table cover.

Oh, and in case you weren't aware - the back side of that heat reflective fabric is NOT heat resistant.  Fortunately a magic eraser eventually took off all the melted mess. grrr.

Love it!  I like the high contrast between the lights and darks.
