I haven't been sewing all that much lately.  Our son moved to an apartment several weeks ago, so I've been painting the kids side of the house in preparation for replacing the carpet.  17 years, two kids, and multiple dogs have done their damage and it was past time.  The new carpet was also going in my sewing area.  Moving everything out the kids rooms and painting, including the vaulted ceiling in DD's room.  And then moving all the stuff out of my sewing room.  And then moving everything BACK.  phew.  I am tired, seriously tired.  My arms and knees are a mess.  And I fell off a step stool and did a pin ball imitation between the window sill and my LA table.  So I have bruises & a couple of extra knots on my head too.  But it is all done and looks wonderful.  I rearranged the sewing room (without the sleeper sofa - it was just too hard to get it out - no one wanted to move it back).  So I have more open floor space and it's wonderful.  I'm having a sew day for our guild raffle quilt on Saturday and have room for 5 people.

despite the fall and injuries (so glad it wasn't serious!), you have done a prodigious amount of work!   Replacing carpet is very labor intensive .. and I'm not talking about the actual laying of the carpet!  Moving all that furniture OUT, then back.  ugh.   Plus you did all the painting and requisite prep work for that.

I'd say you were tired.  And justifiably so.

Having extra space in your sewing room is always a bonus!

Yes, your sewing room looks wonderful, marvelous and a quilter's dream of a work space!

My question for you is, where did Ranger hide out during all of the hub-bub? Cats as a rule do not like change and you wrote that the sleeper sofa is gone so I suppose that Ranger is miffed about that situation.

oh yes.  very miffed.  Plus I was gone twice in the midst of all this.  DD broke her foot and I drove the 2 hours to take her to the Dr.  He's still deciding if he forgives me or not.  I made him a special spot with a new fuzzy blanket DS bought him.  He hung out there during the worst of the turmoil.

 

During the rearranging process I had initially moved his cat tree to the opposite corner of the room.  He kept running to the window sill and starting to climb the book case.  About the 3rd time, I decided to move the cat tree back.  He really does like the window.  So his tree is back in it's old spot, but the sofa is gone.  He spends a lot of time sitting with his back to me, looking very disapproving.

The really big surprise is that we are about to get a new puppy, hopefully he will pick him up next week.  Ranger is NOT going to like that.

Wow sounds like a lot of work. Hope your bruises heal quickly, falling is not fun. Hopefully Ranger will forgive you. You could put a cat bed or hiding place where the sleeper was. Hopefully he will get used to the changes soon.....but then there is the puppy situation....

Poor puppy.  Disgruntled elderly cat meets new puppy. Things will be chaotic.

I just dug out a small quilt. I use it on top of my bedspread. I found i had used the backing for binding. i think it is "self" binding. just cutting the backing larger than the quilt top and folding it over and maybe over again and stitching it down from the front. Worked fine. So that is a thought!!

OH my, ,I just saw your photo of your quilt room. Pardon my drooling.... sigh. Love your room, maybe i can make it over to see in person, not! enjoy!!!

Dee, I need to do some floors one of these days.  Now that the dog is gone - no more pets here.  And only one child in the house, I have some extra space to store things, or move things to think about flooring.  Most likely will paint some as well.  But no plans are made.

there is lots of room once kiddos take "most" of their stuff.  We are down to one elderly dog and are about to get a puppy (Rhodesian ridgeback from a rescue group - we've had two before and really loved them).  Yup feels a little crazy to be getting a puppy with new carpet.  But it is "pet friendly" carpet - so the sales pitch went.  Plus we shut off that part of the house pretty easily, so the puppy will be on the tile floor most of the time.  The only worry is the new sofa in the den - quilts will be used to protect it until he's out of the jumping/teething phase.  Fingers crossed he doesn't drive the elderly female too crazy.
