I have a pattern that calls for one jelly roll. Would I be able to use a layer cake? The longest cut is 8 1/2" (2 per strip) and 4  2 1/2" squares.

Sorry--have to edit my post.  The longest cut was only 6 1/2", so that's  was able to get all the cuts in.  The pattern is Basket Case by Cluck Cluck Sew, which I've had the pattern for for quite some time.  I have been seeing it recently done in ombres on a black background called Weave It Be, and it's really pretty.  The ombre pre-cuts are way expensive, so I decided to try it with a leftover layercake of batik bright colors from Timeless Treasures.  The effect won't be quite as "blended," but I think it will look OK.

Depends on what the pattern calls for -- how long the strips are that the pattern calls for.  That might be more than 10 inches long, which would be the longest strip you could get out of a layer cake.  But depending on the pattern, it could work.

I cut a 10" square from some scrap fabric and found I couldn't get the pieces I need.  Guess I'll have to find another use for the layer cake.  Thanks!
