Your hollow cubes are so darn cute that I just had to try a few. Working with getting a decent light, med, and dark. It seems to look different when you get the block together.

They. Look. Awesome!
They *are* like eating potato chips, aren't they?

Oh no Lynne just followed Pirate down the rabbit hole. Love your blocks.............I have been looking at them too :)

Thanks! Yes, they are like eating chips. They aren't quite as hard as they look and it is fun trying to choose the colors. I sure have made a disaster of my bin of brights. Oh well, needed to organize it anyway.

and don't forget ... you don't need to keep it monochromatic! I chose that because 1) I had seen an example and that's what tempted me but also 2) it made picking fabrics easier in a way.
However, if you choose different colored fabrics, it can make picking the contrast easier because you don't always have the best dark/med/light in one color family, whereas, you CAN get that contrast with different colors.
Just tryin' to help out, you understand. :-)

I haven't followed Pirate down the rabbit hole of hexie tumblers but I did decide to give a hexie snowflake pattern a second try. I'm working with dime size hexies and it's so easy basting with thread the way Pirate showed. Years ago I tried glue basting, what a mess.

Always glad to get some help! Thought I would start out with monochromatic but you are right about the contrast issues. Seems like when you are working on teh block right in front of your nose I don't really see the hollow part until I pull away from it. I spotted some nice bright prints that should offer more contrast so they will be the next ones to play.
