Waverley is what she used.  The black Waverley fabric in the store is not the same quality as Moda but it's not bad.

Thinking about it.  But I'm in the middle of re-organizing a bunch of stuff I already have, so I may find some black fabric that I forgot about.  

Thanks, Yetta.  I remember being surprised when she told us that, and I thought she said it was just as good as Kona - maybe better.  Until she said that, I never realized that Walmart even sold fabric online.  Seems their fabric departments vary from store to store, so not sure if any given store would carry it.  I thought she said she ordered it by the bolt (and isn't a standard bolt about 12-13 yards)?  The bolts of Waverly that Walmart has on its website are 8 yards.    And the closest JoAnn's to me is 90 miles!  I know I could get Kona at a number of other shops.  Don't know if that is what Hobby Lobby carries or not, but they generally have pretty good quality fabric.  And we do have a HL here.  Well, we shall see!     

Frankly I was heartsick when I went to my JoAnn store about two weeks ago looking for novelty fabrics for my current project (the Kresge Kid thing I'm working on). My only sources for fabric in my town have been Walmart and JoAnn's for decades and I my Walmart store stopped carrying fabrics a long, long time ago ... maybe twenty years ago? 

So I relied on JoAnn's for my Project Linus stuff for ages.

I waltzed into JoAnn's expecting to find the same kind of yard goods I used to find and the stuff I found on their shelves was awful. The "hand" of the fabrics in the novelty section was dreadful; if you laundered it and the sizing was washed away you would probably have the flimsiest stuff imaginable.

I didn't not fondle the stuff on the slanted wall shelves to see if that quality was any better ... I stayed focused on the novelties. Maybe the licensed fabrics are better ... I dunno.

Bought a new rotating cutting mat and some machine needles and two novelties; a watermelon print and a flimsy jigsaw puzzle print fabric (I had a better one years ago) and I left feeling glad I don't make kiddie quilts any more.

After all, this sentimental quilt I am making certainly is not going to get much wear from an 80 year old biddy. LOL

P.S.  We do have a Hobby Lobby store here but I never think to browse at their fabric department because I dislike their notions department so much.

In my experience, Hobby Lobby stores do not differ much in the fabrics they carry, or the arrangement of their fabric areas.  They're pretty consistent in all their stores.  They have a more limited - but adequate - number of choices, but they are usually pretty good quality fabrics.  I rarely buy notions there, unless it's just an emergency.  I have bought novelties and also solids from various HL stores over the years, but not recently.  I don't buy many solids at all, except for black and white.  They used to have great fabric clearance sales, and you could get good-quality 100% quilting cotton for $2-3 per yard.  But tastes have changed, and there are some newer fabrics that I don't really care for that much.  Of course, they do not carry any real designer fabrics.  In a few years, all of the gray fabrics and current designs will be out of fashion too - just like the mauve and pink "early American" looking stuff from the early 80s is today.  And all those Cranston Quiltworks "country" designs.  (But I still have a lot of Cranston fabric and panels, and they're not going anywhere till I use them or die trying.  LOL)  

yes, the novelties at Joann quality has gone down.  Many patterns are the same that they've had for years but the fabric itself has gotten worse.  I only go there for fleece now.  Sometimes HL is better, but not always.I bought some blue fabric for some binding last year that the blue rubbed off with the iron, leaving a white line along the crease.  I threw it away.  

I did get some of that solid fabric at Walmart and tried it on my 3D blocks quilt. It is decent quality and I would use it again but I do prefer Kona which is a thicker fabric. I buy all my Kona at Hobby Lobby and JoAnn when it is on sale or I have a coupon. 

Jonna, do i need to bring out some black fabric? I as m sure i can find  some in San Antonio ( maybe even at Mishii's house!!), how much do you need?

I have black fabric. 

It was Waverly. I got some but didn't like for usable quilts...it's quite rough. Fairly good quality but I wouldn't want by my skin.
