Underneath the jackalope sits the mystery item. It sits on top of the dictionaries, spanning both but not completely. The MI is about 2 handspans tall and about 1 wide. I received it for Christmas this year so it may not have a lasting impression yet. And for what it's worth, I'm eye level with the MI when I sit at the computer.

Do you know what it is?

The item is a red metal 'cup tree' for holding several coffee cups.

Hello Peg, the Mystery Item is a metal bird feeder, that has five sides. It's empty for now.

The MI is not a mirror, but one could make the claim that it does look back at me.

The MI is red, but it's not a cup or mug tree. It is also not metal.

one could make a case that the MI is antique or vintage, but it's not any kind of thermometer.

You almost have the base shape, but the MI is neither metal nor bird feeder.
