Gotham

Fox has committed to a new series called "Gotham," centered on a young James Gordon and his days as a Gotham City detective before Batman ever emerged on his radar. But the new drama doesn't seem to be based on the critically acclaimed "Gotham Central" comic books from Ed Brubaker and Greg Rucka — at least as far as the creators are aware.

"I don't know anything about that Gotham show, and I have no idea if it's anything to do with Gotham Central in any way," Brubaker said on Twitter (via Robot 6). "I'm guessing not."

"I was as surprised and delighted as everyone to hear they were making a 'young Gordon' cop show," added Rucka, who wrote about the new series on his blog. "As far as I know, this has nothing to do with Gotham Central. If it did have anything to do with Gotham Central, that wouldn't matter, because DC owns the rights and the characters, as they should. This was work-for-hire, something all of us knew at the start."

Even though it appears Brubaker and Rucka are not involved in the "Gotham" series, Rucka was quick to point out, "I would be delighted to be contacted by anyone involved."

It goes without saying that we would be delighted, too! And if "Gotham" does end up adding the word "Central" to its title, Fox could take a few notes from our "Gotham Central" casting call.

Are you looking forward to the new "Gotham" series? Tell us in the comments section below or let us know on Twitter!

The good. The evil. The beginning.

Everyone knows the name Commissioner Gordon. He is one of the crime world’s greatest foes, a man whose reputation is synonymous with law and order. But what is known of Gordon’s story and his rise from rookie detective to Police Commissioner? What did it take to navigate the multiple layers of corruption that secretly ruled Gotham City, the spawning ground of the world’s most iconic villains? And what circumstances created them – the larger-than-life personas who would become Catwoman, The Penguin, The Riddler, Two-Face and The Joker?

GOTHAM is an origin story of the great DC Comics Super-Villains and vigilantes, revealing an entirely new chapter that has never been told. From executive producer/writer Bruno Heller ("The Mentalist," "Rome"), GOTHAM follows one cop’s rise through a dangerously corrupt city teetering between good and evil, and chronicles the birth of one of the most popular super heroes of our time.

Growing up in Gotham City’s surrounding suburbs, JAMES GORDON (Ben McKenzie, "Southland," "The O.C.") romanticized the city as a glamorous and exciting metropolis where his late father once served as a successful district attorney. Now, two weeks into his new job as a Gotham City detective and engaged to his beloved fiancée, BARBARA KEAN (Erin Richards, "Open Grave," "Breaking In"), Gordon is living his dream – even as he hopes to restore the city back to the pure version he remembers it was as a kid.

Brave, honest and ready to prove himself, the newly-minted detective is partnered with the brash, but shrewd police legend HARVEY BULLOCK (Donal Logue, "Sons of Anarchy," "Terriers," "Vikings," "Copper"), as the two stumble upon the city’s highest-profile case ever: the murder of local billionaires Thomas and Martha Wayne. At the scene of the crime, Gordon meets the sole survivor: the Waynes’ hauntingly intense 12-year-old son, BRUCE (David Mazouz, "Touch"), toward whom the young detective feels an inexplicable kinship. Moved by the boy’s profound loss, Gordon vows to catch the killer.

As he navigates the often-underhanded politics of Gotham’s criminal justice system, Gordon will confront imposing gang boss FISH MOONEY (Jada Pinkett Smith, "The Matrix" franchise, "HawthoRNe"), mob kingpin CARMINE FALCONE (John Doman, "The Wire") and many of the characters who will become some of fiction’s most renowned, enduring villains, including a teenaged SELINA KYLE/the future CATWOMAN (acting newcomer Camren Bicondova), OSWALD COBBLEPOT/THE PENGUIN (Robin Lord Taylor, "The Walking Dead") and EDWARD NYGMA/the future RIDDLER (newcomer Cory Michael Smith).

The crime drama will follow Gordon’s turbulent and singular rise through the Gotham City police department, led by Police Captain SARAH ESSEN (Zabryna Guevara, "Burn Notice"), as he goes head-to-head with major crimes unit detectives RENEE MONTOYA (Victoria Cartagena, "The Bedford Diaries") and CRISPUS ALLEN (Andrew Stewart Jones, "Sex & the City"). It also will focus on the unlikely friendship Gordon forms with the young heir to the Wayne fortune, who is being raised by his unflappable butler, ALFRED PENNYWORTH (Sean Pertwee, "Camelot," "Elementary"). It is a friendship that will last them all of their lives, playing a crucial role in helping the young boy eventually become the crusader he’s destined to be.

GOTHAM is based upon the characters from DC Comics and is produced by Warner Bros. Television. Executive producer Bruno Heller ("The Mentalist") wrote the pilot, which was directed and executive-produced by Emmy Award nominee Danny Cannon (the "CSI" franchise, "Nikita"). John Stephens will serve as an executive producer on the series. "Like" GOTHAM on Facebook at facebook.com/GOTHAMonFOX. Follow the series on Twitter @Gotham and join the discussion using #gotham. THE GOOD. THE EVIL. THE FULL SEASON ORDER.

FOX PICKS UP SIX MORE EPISODES OF

SMASH HIT DRAMA, “GOTHAM”

Next All-New Episode Airs Tonight on FOX

FOX has ordered six more episodes of this fall’s breakout new drama series, GOTHAM, it was announced today by Dana Walden and Gary Newman, Chairmen and CEOs of Fox Television Group. The announcement raises the series order to 22 episodes.

“GOTHAM debuted as one of the most buzzed-about shows of the fall, and with good reason. Bruno Heller and Danny Cannon have created an incredibly rich world, with characters that draw you in and a cast that brings to life these heroes and villains in a way we’ve never seen before,” said Walden and Newman. “We are so excited to see where Bruno, Danny and the entire GOTHAM team take this story over the course of this season, and so thankful to all the fans who have embraced it this fall.”

GOTHAM is tied as Monday night’s No. 1 drama among Adults 18-49 and is this season's No. 1 broadcast drama overall among Men 18-49 -- a full rating point ahead of the No. 2 drama in that demographic. The debut episode, which  exploded into Premiere Week with a 6.0/18 rating among Adults 18-49, outperformed “Blacklist” and “Scorpion” and delivered  FOX’s highest-rated fall drama debut in 14 years. This Live +7 rating reflects the largest post-three day ratings gain (+0.9) of any broadcast drama, ever. In addition, GOTHAM’s premiere drew 14.1 million viewers in the first seven days and has been streamed more than two million times to date on FOX NOW and Hulu. The show’s second and third episodes continued this positive trend, each delivering a 4.0 rating or higher in just the first three days, making it one of the Top Three dramas overall on broadcast television this season.

In the next all-new episode of GOTHAM, “Arkham,” airing tonight (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX, a contentious city council vote on the future of the Arkham district approaches, and politicians on both sides are in danger. Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and Bullock (Donal Logue) must race to protect the council. Meanwhile, Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor), who has already been christened “The Penguin,” takes violent measures to further ingratiate himself with Maroni (guest star David Zayas), and an old friend pays Gordon a visit.

ORIGIN STORY OF FIRST-EVER FEMALE FIREFLY IGNITES ON “GOTHAM” TONIGHT AND NEXT MONDAY, OCTOBER 26 ON FOX

Michelle Veintimilla Guest-Stars as Bridgit Pike/Firefly

GOTHAM will introduce the first-ever female Firefly (Michelle Veintimilla, “Not Cool”) in a special two-night event beginning tonight (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) and continuing next Monday, Oct. 26  (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. In the episodes, “Bridgit Pike” (Veintimilla) is enslaved by her brothers, a notorious gang of arsonists, and forced into the family business. When she catches the eye of Selina Kyle (Camren Bicondova), the young Catwoman and the soon-to-be-Firefly team up to put Bridgit’s fire-starting skills to good use. But after a deadly encounter with the Pike Brothers, the weak, quiet girl is transformed into a vengeful Super-Villain, hell-bent on destroying those who have wronged her.

Watch/share a first-look clip at the introduction of Bridgit Pike and the infamous Pike family here: https://youtu.be/PcCtt7z4zCI. Also, attached is a custom DC Comics illustration of GOTHAM’s Firefly, to share on social media.

“We decided to make Firefly a woman because we wanted to describe how even a warm, loving and compassionate person can turn to the dark side when life pushes him or her that way,” explains show creator and executive producer Bruno Heller. “She's not driven by testosterone-fueled aggression, but by a burning sense of injustice. Michelle Veintimilla brings warmth and vulnerability to the role that conceals a steely core of strength and courage.”

Also on tonight’s episode, a rivalry between the Waynes and the Galavans resurfaces, and Gordon (Ben McKenzie) struggles to maintain order in the city. Then, next Monday, Kringle (guest star Chelsea Spack) and Nygma’s (Cory Michael Smith) relationship takes a new step, and Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) and Galavan (James Frain) continue to battle for control of Gotham City’s underworld.

Michelle Veintimilla is a film, television and theater actress. She recently made her Broadway debut alongside Chita Rivera, in the Tony Award-nominated musical “The Visit.” Later this year, she will be seen in the feature films “Fathers and Daughters,” opposite Russell Crowe, Octavia Spencer and Aaron Paul; and “Love the Coopers,” which debuts this November. Last year, she starred in the independent Shane Dawson feature “Not Cool” and “The Chair.” Veintimilla’s recent television credits include “Blue Bloods,” “The Good Wife” and “Limitless.” She is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University and currently resides in New York City.

GOTHAM: RISE OF THE VILLAINS is based upon the characters from DC Comics and is produced by Warner Bros. Television. The series is written and executive-produced by Bruno Heller (“The Mentalist”), directed and executive-produced by Emmy Award nominee Danny Cannon (the “CSI” franchise, “Nikita”) and executive-produced by John Stephens. “Like” GOTHAM on Facebook at facebook.com/GOTHAMonFOX.
