Hashtags (#) are a way of keeping track of who's talking about what on Twitter.

If you check your Twitter page, you'll notice trending topics on the right side. Many of these carry a hashtag in front so that discussions can be culled and sorted in a search. While Twitter's search will pick up nearly every mention of a word these days, a hashtag will show you not just who happens to mention a word, but who's specifically trying to add to a topic.

#iranelection has been one of the most popular trending topics for the last two weeks - impressive, since normally the most popular topics change dozens of times a day.

Don't know what a particular hashtag refers to? Of course someone's created an app with hashtag definitions:

How can you use #hashtags to your advantage?

Check the trending topics, follow any legitimate sounding links your fellow tweeters give. Chances are good that you'll find interesting stories, information and people that you can tell your forum friends about.

Now, turn it around, and use the AddThis (Mark/Share Discussion) button at the bottom of your message frame to share an interesting discussion you're having in your forum with your fellow twitterers.

Use hashtags, and you're increasing the chances that you'll attract the attention of others from all over the world that are interested in that subject.

How Not To Use Twitter Hashtags - how one upscale furniture store got the big FailWhale from Twitterers by misusing #hashtags.

Even once they finally apologized, they were burned over and over in the blog comment section.

Wow, I didn't realize you could do that.  Awesome!!

By the way, will you please kick me out of here as I have a theme to design but I keep coming back to see what else you've added.  I am so disciplined. LOL

LOL I was almost late leaving for my bus to go to work, I was so carried by what I was finding here!
This forum is quite addicting. LOL
