NYT: Navy finds that deadly collisions were “avoidable.”
• Two accidents between Navy destroyers and commercial vessels in the Pacific this year were the result of crew member and navigational errors, the Navy’s top officer said.
A total of 17 sailors were killed aboard the destroyers Fitzgerald and John S. McCain.
A broader review of the Seventh Fleet’s pace of operations, training, equipment and maintenance is to be released today.
