This is so true for me.I put pods on my 05 1100 and no matter what I tried in the last year and a half can not stop the miss backfire from poor gas mixture ! the bottom 1/8 and 1/4 suck. like the slides don't open fast enough on the low end. The only thing I have not tried is to cut the springs. I think I will go back to the stock box for a better low end where I need it the most!  36 years as a master Toyota mechanic.

Never an issue with mine.....pulls hard on the low end. Pulls hard on the upper end. Pulls hard in the middle. Stock cams. 150 mains, 17.5 pilots, Tims PMS at .75 turns.

If you're looking for immediate "snap" from zero to full throttle.....the stock Mikuni's aren't the way to go. Keihan flat slides will give you that.....but take away some other things....like a choke and quite a lot of cash.

I have the same setup, tied different pilots air jet 17.5,20.0,22.0  no help runs like crap first 1/8 throttle.  , stock PMS  AT 2.5. TRIED DIFFERENT AIR FILTERS USING 600 K&N.

Will try clean pilot passages in carb this week if that is not it. then going back to the airbox with pods inside.I check the valves,TPS they were good.it missing, backfires, jerks, hard to drive on Mountain roads. 

I have been trying to fix this for over a year and can't find the problem. reading all things in books and websites. No one knows the fix. if not clogged passage then is the pod set up. all looks good. 

All this started when I removed the airbox and put on pods.I think causing the carb to not get the vacuum to the slides At least that what it feel like . 

I want a good low end. because we use that a lot more than top end. I don't go over 100 mph that often

If anyone know the fix  or were the problem may be. I am all ears! I think it had to be in the polits area?

No, Mick, I am talking about taking off from a stop or rolling on the throttle on mountain roads. You go around a slow turn at idle, then give 1/8 throttle and it will punk, jerk, I have to pull in the clutch, rev it, and slip the clutch to get it to go. that's how bad it is. Almost undriveable unless you know how to get around it by doing the above.

I wish I knew what makes the slides open in the carbs because I think that is my problem. and the only thing I can think of is not enough vacuum because of no restriction of air in the airbox. these slides are controlled by a vacuum to make them open.

Like I said.....I've never had an issue. Did you check your vacuum caps on the synch ports? How about the teeny o rings on inside the top of the carb? Are your diaphragms in good shape?

Like I said....we have thousands out there with pods and no issues....so there is nothing wrong with the set up.....as a matter of fact I'd bet most would say it was the single best thing they ever did to their 1100's. These carbs are very simple, but finicky. Which is why we recommend using the KB as a base line tuning resource.

A trick I've used in the past is to go for a ride and carefully add a little choke to see what happens after you do. If it gets worse, you're a little rich on the idle circuit....if it gets better, it just needs a little more fuel on that circuit.

When you put the oe intake back together and you still have the same problem you will see  that the problem is not the pods. I would tear down the carbs at least as far as when you did the pods. Carefully reassemble. Look for missing or damaged O-rings. Replace the jets (they are cheep). Something in there got dinked when did the pods, You just have to find out what.

Maybe torn or misaligned diaphragm, tweaked needle, a tiny spring gone missing

new jets, new o-rings, diagrams look good, intakes manifolds no leaks, tried different jets,run better with a 122 pilot jets. so must be lean, plugs show rich.

 I don't think its sparks because the top end is great. the bike is a 2005  72,000 miles.

I want to thank you for the help on my broken middle shaft I did the fix myself and it worked great. rode it 333 mile Of hard mountain driving, the most on and off of throttle you can do. and it's working great!
