Democrats will formally file President Biden’s immigration bill on Thursday, facing steep odds as they attempt to create the first major path to U.S. citizenship for undocumented immigrants in nearly 35 years.

The bill is the centerpiece of Biden’s broad strategy to forge a more humane immigration system, and it would grant legal status to approximately 11 million people, mostly from Mexico and Central America.

The legislation faces significant hurdles in a divided Senate still reeling from the impeachment trial of former president Donald Trump, who often tapped into anti-immigration rhetoric to fire up his campaign rallies.

Biden has expressed hope for passing a bipartisan measure, and the U.S. Citizenship Act marks the first major effort since the Senate passed a massive immigration overhaul in 2013 and that effort died in the House. But it is unclear how aggressively he will court Republicans needed to pass the Senate.

No matter how much they change immigration laws to make it easier to get through the immigration process, it's never enough.

Granting legal status to undocumented immigrants just encourages others to overstay visas, and/or cross the border illegally.  Then there is the group designated as childhood arrivals.  They are always thought of, and referred to as young children who were brought here by their parents, and didn't have a say in it so there is a lot of sympathy for them. It's often said that this is the only country they know. People forget that many of those children were well into their teens when they arrived here

Blaming and demonizing the immigrants is bs and doesn’t work. We had enough of that the last 4 years. We need common sense immigration policy and need to allow a path to citizenship. The immigrants from Western Europe are always favored and have an Easier path

And many of those teens were ferrying younger siblings/children to a place of safety because the parents had been murdered. Your point would be?
