FYI - Received a notice on Facebook from Paulick Report stating that Jess Jackson had died but was unconfirmed.  Went to the Kendall Jackson wine website and it is showing his photo with his birthdate and today's date.  Therefore, can say it is confirmed.   Apparently died in his sleep...has been battling cancer. 

Saying prayers for his family and friends.

I saw that as well, very sad that he did not get to see Rachel and Curlin's foal.

He was a great sportsman, and he will be missed. So sorry for him and his family. I did hope that he would get to see Rachel and Curlin's foal.

Winemaker, horse owner Jess Jackson dies at age 81

Jess Jackson, founder of Kendall-Jackson wines and a prominent horse owner, died Thursday at his home in Geyserville, Calif., Kendall-Jackson reported on its website. He was 81.

A Jackson Family Wines spokeswoman said the cause of death was complications from cancer.

Jackson described himself as a life-long racing fan who watched Seabiscuit race. In his later years, he became a prominent horse owner and breeder, best known for racing two-time Horse of the Year Curlin (2007-’08) and 2009 Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra with partners.

I am so saddened by this news.  Jess Jackson will be greatly missed in the sport.  A true sportsman.  Prayer for his family.

Rachel's future foal in my mind will always bring thoughts of the man who dared to dream of it's promise.

Likewise, very sad to learn of Mr. Jackson's passing. He loved the sport, and was so proud of both Curlin and Rachel.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

I saw this on bloodhorse.com

Very sad news, I am sorry he didn't get to see the first foal born.  It was a good life and an exicting one, and he did much for horse racing, though maybe not always the most popular choices.  I liked the grumpy old bugger.  RIP and here's hoping his widow hold onto the horses.

I wonder if they will name the foal after JJ?  Jesse Alexander - Curlin Jackson - its a possibility.
