Someone recently went looking for the old Jockey Thread - evidently it disappeared into the way back machine, so I thought I'd start a new one.

Garrett Gomez makes his first start since breaking his heel first week in January after winning something like 6 stakes wins in the first 10 days of the meet. I'm not sure he's 100% ready to ride but he was pushing his comeback for Out of Bounds, and now that OOB is out recovering from surgery, GG's obligated to ride for others...wishing him well. I hope he takes off his mounts if the pain gets to be too much...

Here's a nice video on Rosie Napravnik by the local news channel

Good to see Garrett back and much luck to Rosie in NY.

Thanks - I don't think it was a big surprise to anyone - he couldn't even stand in the stirrups a week and a half ago.

I feel his pain ....but probably would have felt worse if he had to give up the mount on Out of Bounds in the San Felipe tomorrow.

Yep, being older now doesn't help with quick healing either......he needs to be patient, and work on strengthening that foot...

I wish you had his phone number, so you could tell him what you just said! (I'm sure his wife Pam is doing a good job of that though!)

Gary Stevens reported it's not riding that hurts, it's the long walks riders must take at Santa Anita to get back and forth from jockey room to track.  I wish GG well, he must have to be very careful about pain meds and it must be very frustrating.  Glad he is being so smart and good to himself.

Garrett said the heel doesn't hurt - it's the tendons and ligaments in his ankle (owwwch):

“Where he put the plate and screws in my heel isn’t what hurts,” he said. “The ligaments and tendons in the front left corner of my ankle are tight, and what I’m concerned about pain-wise is the impact and movement from the horse actually hitting the ground. On the Equicizer, I’m not in any pain.”
