Yes, I've only recently learned that Hastings, Fair Play, and Man o' War were all tempermental and tough to handle. Probably we hadn't heard much about this aspect of MoW is because he spent so many years at stud and in retirement and he had mellowed.
Would have been something to have gotten to the bottom of him but they never did. He just takes my breath away. And interesting that Exterminator was mentioned. I rate him as #1 because he did so much more than other horses but MoW is the big star, deservedly. He just was greatness. I think I'd drop to my knees if I had ever got to see him.
