Daaher pensioned to Old Friends

Retired from racing in 2008 following an ankle injury, the Canadian-bred son of Awesome Again out of the Canadian stakes winner Irish Cherry, was best known for his upset win over the heavily favored Midnight Lute in the 2007 GR1 Cigar Mile at Aqueduct.

In his two seasons on the track, Daaher collected earnings of $455,163 under trainer Kiaran McLaughlin, and won both the Cigar Mile and the GR2 Jerome Handicap. He retired with 4 wins and 2 thirds from 9 starts.

Originally standing at Shadwell’s Nashwan Stud in Lexington, Daaher was relocated to Circle H Farms, Abbeville, LA in 2019 before being pensioned.

"We're grateful to Shadwell for allowing us to care for this great son of the late Adena Springs-Old Friends stallion, Hall of Famer, Awesome Again,” said Old Friends President Michael Blowen. “He accomplished so much in his brief career. I know his fans will be excited to see him."

I receive an email about this! Enjoy your retirement Daaher...

A little off subject, I found in my "horse boxes" a large book I sent for about Old Friends a number of years ago. Quite nice, indeed.

The book I have is written on newspaper and very large photos of the roster of horses they had at the time. I will it up so I can let you know the title. It was directly issued by Old Friends and the Daily Racing Form.

Old Friends welcome Jonesboro!

GEORGETOWN, KY – SEPT. 13, 2022 – Multiple graded stakes winner Jonesboro has been retired to Old Friends, the Thoroughbred Retirement facility in Georgetown, KY.

The now 20-year-old stallion arrived September 11 from Lake Hamilton Equine in Royal, Arkansas, where he had stood since 2011.

A millionaire Kentucky-bred son of Sefapiano out of the Filly Triple Crown winner and Eclipse Champion Mom’s Command, Jonesboro was campaigned by owner Michael Langford and trainer Randy Morse for the duration of his career, which spanned seven seasons.

A veteran handicap horse, Jonesboro captured multiple graded stakes, including the 2007 Grade 3 Essex Handicap and the 2008 Grade 3 Razorback Handicap, both at Oaklawn Park.

In his banner year, 2009, Jonesboro was victorious in the Grade 3 Texas Mile Stakes at Lone Star Park and in the 2009 Grade 2 Prairie Meadows Cornhusker Handicap.

After his final start at Zia Park in 2010, Jonesboro retired to stud, where he sired stakes winners, Racer, Brooke’s a Bookin’, and Hoonani Road.

After 50 starts and 14 victories, his lifetime earnings totaled $1, 550,685.

"Like most of us, Jonesboro owes a lot to his mother," said Old Friends President Michael Blowen. "Mom's Command was owned by Peter Fuller, who also campaigned Dancer’s Image. Peter contributed $500 to Old Friends when we first started. And his daughter, Abby, who rode Mom, is a lifelong friend. Generosity and nepotism still matter."
