I like that SA is thinking outside the box, and hope it helps make full fields.

Extremely bad situation.

Lilac Fire spreads to San Luis Rey Downs training center

The Blood-Horse's Jeremy Balan spoke to trainer Cliff Sise, who said barns had burned down, and that the blaze spread fast enough that the only solution was turning horses loose from their stalls. Sise later told CBS' San Diego affiliate that multiple horses died in the blaze.

The number of horses on site at San Luis Rey measures in the hundreds, with those that were evacuated accepted at the Del Mair Fair Grounds about 30 miles South.

Just after 6 p.m. ET, an NBC San Diego reporter on site said those assisting in evacuation efforts at San Luis Rey "had panic in their voices" and were "begging for an extra facemask because they were overcome with the smoke." At least one fire truck was on site with helicopters hovering above.

Incredibly sad and horrific. Those poor horses......TVG guys were talking about the trainers at Los Al trying to get back to their barns and having to keep those running today at LA. They also discussed how people might help.

Jeremy Balan of The Blood-Horse has tweeted: Horrific scene at San Luis Rey, according to trainer Cliff Sise. Sise reports the fire came so fast, to save horses the only remedy was to let them loose out of stalls. Barns have burned down, horses are still running loose. Unimaginable.

Per : Pete is on scene & is trying his very best to save as many horses as possible. The Sheriff is allowing 3-4 horse vans only a couple at a time. He went in and hasn't come back yet. We are requesting as many prayers as possible for all.

Hopefully when they were discussing this on TVG, that people showed up with trailers.

Cliff Sise said things have calmed down @ San Luis Rey, but tons of horses still loose. Gave a awful account of the horse deaths from Scott Hansen's barn.

Del Mar racing secretary David Jerkens says vans are coming into the Del Mar backside pretty consistently. They have feed ready, just a matter of getting stalls bedded and getting horses in.

A lot of brave men and women are risking their lives to save race horses threatened by fire at the San Luis Rey training facility in Bonsall. They deserve our profound and boundless gratitude.
