Sad. Disgusting. Effing CDI. And who's the Duchossois person? In same bucket as CDI?
By Thomas Chambers
Eddie Arcaro. Bill Shoemaker. Laffit Pincay, Jr. Randy Romero, who passed this week. Jimmy Winkfield, Isaac Murphy, Phil Georgeff. Seabiscuit (rained out but came), Citation, Cigar, John Henry "The Steel Drivin' Horse," Secretariat, Gio Ponti, The Pizza Man. Bill Hartack, Johnny Longden, Pat Day, Calvin Borel, Inez Karlsson, George "The Iceman" Woolf. Bricks and Mortar just weeks ago. The Tin Man, Beat Hollow, John Henry. Rene Douglas. Eddie Delahoussaye. Earlie Fires, who carried Chicago racing on top of a horse nearly into his seventies.
You cannot reason with people who have no heart, who don't think about anything but the twisted rationalizations of the pitiful way they treat the game.
They all insulted and marginalized racing at Arlington years ago, hanging on, trading on the Illinois horsemen who truly love the sport. The sight of the wrecking ball haunts me.

It IS disgusting! I think Duchossois was in the steel industry(had multiple lawsuits against him, most involving OSHA- I had an instructor in college who was on his defense team- not much of an instructor!). I believe it was actually Tvg’s Mike Joyce’s father that was the incentive to rebuild after the fire. I have never thought much of CDI, laughed when they consulted Keeneland on customer service after the debacle of owners not being treated with common courtesy. Arlington is a beautiful facility, it will be a shame to lose it. They are to build another track with casino this coming year, rumor has it to be 20 minutes from my house. I hope CD has nothing to do with it!!!! Hawthorne in the meantime will not have racing next spring(?) due to adding a casino to their facility. So CDI can do what they want, trainers will just move their horses elsewhere.

You gotta hand it to the guy that wrote the article- he tells it like it is and pulls no punches.
it is disgusting.

It’s bad enough the politicians couldn’t get the casino thing done before( it does need some tweaking still, mostly due to closing loopholes that certain unlawful businesses can get away with stuff), and now that it has, CDI is screwing the trainers/owners!

Probably not, but track owners can offer more of their earnings over what the gambling law states. The problem is CDI is part of racing history by owning Churchill Downs and running the Kentucky Derby, but has lost their touch with the racing community for the almighty dollar. They make enough on their gambling venues to support a racetrack......

Illinois is holding off putting out their racing schedule in the hopes of CDI submitting paperwork to become a racino or lose their racing license- that flipping organization makes my blood boil!

Slots. Disgusting 2 face CDI and their greediness does not include racing. It’s a shame the history of Churchill has turned into this uncaring corporation!
