Happy New Year to you!!  Hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable step into the new year.  Any New Year's Day food traditions?  We always have pork (ribs being cooked by Chef Mike today), cabbage or collards (cabbage this year), hopping John (black eyed peas) and cornbread.  This year's dessert is a Meyer lemon meringue pie I made this morning using juice from our lemons.  I'm hungry!

Our first rescue for 2023 is Rogers Rescues.  You can access their website at www.rogersrescues.com for donation (PayPal or other credit card) info.  There's a handy dandy box to click on for access to the donation form - I was given a spot for a note and showed it was a FOB donation.  For donation by check, their mailing address is:  531 US HIGHWAY 22 EAST SUITE 191, WHITEHOUSE STATION, NJ  08889

Please let me know when you've seen and sent.

Happy New Year, Linda!  I sent my donation by Paypal to Rogers Rescues.  Happy to help them out, as our first rescue of 2023.

Our Christmas was very quiet. We spent it with my husband's brother in Miami.  My husband has been battling blood cancer for 10 years, and sadly it's finally catching up with him, so it wasn't a really joyous holiday, but I'm grateful for every day we're together! And we keep praying and hoping for the best.

Just read about your biopsy, but very, very happy that it was just fat. Back in my younger years, in my 20's and 30's, I had 5 breast lumps removed. All of them were just fatty fibroids, but the worry was always great before I had them removed! I just had my yearly mammogram, and luckily all is well.

And great news that Sam and Sadie are thriving with you!  So, glad that they both stayed with you!

Here's hoping for a happy, healthy 2023 for everyone, and hope we can help many deserving rescues this year!  Thanks for keeping the club going!

Thank you, Tricia.  Prayers to you and your husband.

Sam and Sadie are a real handful.  They are definitely flourishing.  I've decided to put Sam thru the slow kill process for heartworms.  The quick kill, two month method requires "exercise restriction" during its entirety.  There is no way on earth to restrict his activity.  We'd need to construct a building at a distance from the house and yard to contain him.   It just is not practical.  We did the quick kill with Goldie but she was deaf so didn't get fired up when the others barked and she was mostly interested in sleeping anyway.   Sam?  He runs wild!  I think both will eventually become the typical front porch dogs but for now, they're still running on puppy energy.  And, the old timer Gracie has been somewhat  rejuvenated.

Dinner was tasty.  Mike cooks the ribs for several hours on low and they were super tender.

Thank you for your donation!

Hi Linda

I just sent my donation through PayPal to Rogers Rescue. Lovely website!

I had collard greens, black eyed peas and cornbread for New Year's. I just wish I had some of your lemon meringue pie! Sounds awesome,

Thank you for organizing this for yet another year!

Thanks, Amy.

The pie was good.  The poor lemon tree looks pretty ratty right now.  We covered it when we had freezing temps but it definitely felt the effects of the weather.  It is covered with dead leaves.  Hopefully the plant itself will be okay.  It's looked pretty bad a few times over the years and has always come back.
