Made a $25 contribution by PayPal to Barking Back Rescue. Looks like another wonderful, deserving group!
Hope you were not affected too badly by the hurricane. We escaped this one in Southeast Florida, and hope there are no more.
I'm in recovery mode after knee surgery. Tripped off a curb and totally shattered my knee so will not be able to put weight on it for three months. I have a much better appreciation now for people who are dealing with mobility issues. It is very challenging.
Thank you!

Tricia, thank you. Sorry to hear about your knee! I go back to see my ortho guy next Tuesday. Have had arthritis in knees for decades. Just dealt with it. Over last year, the right one occasionally "catches" causing breathtaking bone on bone feeling pain. I wound up after xrays receiving a cortisone shot in it. Worked great for a few weeks but then one day that began pain free turned into pain that totally immobilized me. Could not put weight on that leg. Stopped me literally in my tracks. Had Mike bring me a tree limb to use as a cane and I hobbled to sit down. That pain lasted for a day or so which caused me to get a quicker follow up with ortho than the scheduled 10 October. Thankfully that level of pain is not constant but I'm always aware of the "pop" just waiting to happen so try to walk gingerly - and I am NOT a soft walker!! I need to have something else done to it!
Then, last Sunday, two of our dogs were bitten by a rattlesnake (that day I was also bitten on jaw by a spider while moving things in the garage - so my cheek swelled up). Imagine if you will me hobbling into vet clinic in an absolute panic with a swollen cheek and two snake bit dogs. Fun times. Sadie, the lab hound mix, got off pretty easily and came home Tuesday. Scooter, the Jack Russell mix got the worst of it. He had two vials of the antivenom and was able to come home yesterday. I'm sticking to him like glue, babying him! He has good appetite, normal bowel and bladder movements. Still fairly subdued, though. And I'm keeping an eye on his respiratory rate. It's a little more rapid than normal. Considering all the drugs he received, that is maybe to be expected.

So very sorry to learn of all the challenges you and the dogs have faced recently.
Prayers for healing for your knee and the spider bite and so relieved that both dogs are doing better. Your brave little JRT mix will hopefully progress in healing quickly. Take it easy, you guys.

Oh, my God, Linda! So sorry to hear about you and your dogs! That is really rough. You must have been freaking out! Thank goodness you are OK from the spider bite. And I hope you find a cure for your knee challenges. Poor babies getting bit by the snake is horrifying! We have snakes here, but never saw a rattlesnake. Thank God they are getting better. They are so fortunate that you were able to take them right away to the vet. You saved their lives. Let's hope for more quiet times soon for everybody!

Tricia, thank you. It's been a roller coaster. Sadie is home and doing fine. Scooter came home Wednesday afternoon but due to rapid respiration, I took him back to vet on Friday. Aspirate pneumonia from doing so much vomiting early on in this nightmare AND severely anemic. Yesterday vet called and said we'd reached critical point. A transfusion was needed. He'd likely die without it and survival was 50/50 with one. We chose the transfusion. Update this morning - he was doing really well, lively and wanting to get out of the cage. She said he is the sweetest most "positive" little dog (aka "hard headed"!!). Thank God she is on call this weekend and has been caring for him since he was readmitted. She and her husband own the clinic and live right there so it's very easy for her to check on him. She expressed concern about how well I was resting thru this! Bless her heart. She will provide an update in about an hour and another about 9:00 tonight. Will recheck his blood tomorrow. He is also a little wobbly - she thinks from neurological impact of the venom. So, my baby isn't out of the woods yet.
