Backstory on Personal Ensign, who I didn’t know had leg surgery after a workout.

I wish I had followed racing then. What an amazing story: everything had to go just right to allow this wonderful mare to race again. First, they chose the right man for the job: Dr. Bramlage is a genius IMO- and willing to try new things---It is close to a miracle that she was not only able to race again after the surgery, but at the very highest level. She was also a wonderful broodmare and lived a long and great life. As I was reading this article I thought about Ruffian-- she was a few years too early to benefit from new tools to not only repair fractures but to improve anesthesia.

Yes, they mentioned Ruffian in article. I was in the middle of my divorce during this time and wasn’t able to watch much racing. It is truly a miracle she survived and had an incredible career in racing, the racing gods came together for her st the right time!
